With many running the Northbrook 10km race tomorrow, we had a second place at Coventry and a PB. We also had a first timer at Brueton, and parkrun tourism at a relatively young, northern event.
Darren Hallett achieved an excellent PB of 38:40 when finishing 13th in this race. Well done, Darren!
A nice venue, a scenic course through the Warwickshire countryside and a meticulously organised event. So similar to Kenilworth half, with a hill start, then a rapid downhill section at mile 2, followed by a picturesque but relatively flat route meandering through local villages, finishing with the same hill on the way back in at mile 12, but with a fast finish back into the grounds of Compton Verney House.
Congratulations to two relatively new Sphinx runners – David West on a very respectable 1:49 time on his half-marathon debut (which followed his Park Run PB yesterday at Brueton) and Tracy Avill on an excellent time of 1:43 (4th in her category and 8th female).
It was another event-filled Saturday morning. There wasn’t a Coventry parkrun, due to the Godiva festival, so 25 Sphinx AC runners/family/friends scattered throughout this green and pleasant land. London (a trip organised by our friends at Massey’s) and Northampton were visited along with more local options. Brueton produced a win in the form of Ashley Miles, along with no fewer than 5 PBs.
Teams from Massey Ferguson, Northbrook, Godiva, and the Netball and Rugby sections at Copsewood joined us for our 30th Anniversary relays evening. Good fun was had by all – during the relays themselves and, afterwards, when food and drink were consumed. A huge thanks to everyone that supported the evening, and those that organised the event.
5 Sphinx runners completed this multi-lap event, held in the grounds of Coombe Abbey. Dorota finished as 2nd lady.
18 Sphinx runners completed this new race, which was organised by Spa Striders. There were good results all round with a couple of possible new PBs (to be confirmed) for Colin Piper and Darren Hallett.
6 Sphinx runners made the straightforward trip to the eighth and final EMGP race of the series. Conditions were sunny as we made our way from the starting field onto various pavements and underpasses, via numerous twists and turns, before a short finish on grass.
For this race, Ash took the first prize in the M40 category and Tom finished first in the M70 category, but there was no prize.
For the series, Ash took first prize for M40, Tom tied for M70 but lost out on some kind of count-back.
10* Sphinx runners completed this WRRL race in wet conditions. Ash finished 5th and won his category.
