Nice course well marshalled, and plenty of spectator support on route.
Although there is still 6 weeks to go before the race. There are only 100 places remaining so get your entry in soon to avoid missing out on this unique event in the local running calendar. 2014 Coombe 8
9 Sphinx runners completed this twisty and turny 10-mile course, with good performances all round. Ash finished 3rd overall, 6 new PBs were set and also two category wins and two category 2nd places.
The only downside was the multi-hour wait for the results and presentations…
Laura Pibworth-Dolinski enjoyed this scenic half-marathon:
This half-marathon course follows a beautiful scenic route through the town of Henley-on-Thames, over the famous bridge, along sections of the Thames tow path (running alongside future Olympic rowers-in-training), multi-million pound mansions and idyllic village churches. Apart from a painfully long hill (1.5 miles up), and a long stretch of steep downhill (from Fawley Village to Fawley Bottom no less), this course is mostly flat, and is a mixture of terrain; footpaths, road and a short section of grass through the privately-owned Fawley Lodge. This Grade-I listed building is attributed to Sir Christopher Wren, with landscaping from Capability Brown (There is a Sphinx link here – you need to marshall in the field at Coombe Abbey to find out more!), and was apparently the inspiration for Toad Hall. The race starts and finishes at Henley Rugby club, with car parking on the river bank! Finishers received a Lidl goody bag and a medal, and we had a well-earned Sunday dinner with the family.
A good turnout of 15 juniors travelled to Hatton on a cold and misty morning to run in the first of 5 x country events. Running a variety of distances they all ran a good race in quite muddy conditions, not the best conditions to run in pink trainers!!! Good times had by all. Well done. Next event 16th November Wolverhampton
Great turnouts and great performances. Well done to Adny Wilkinson for 1st place at Coventry. Paul Slatford, Colin Piper and Pete Hall made it 4 Sphinx runners in the top 10. Colin and Pete bagged new PBs in the process. Also PBing were Andy McIntosh and Andrew Hales at Coventry and Georgia Edmands at Kingsbury Water. Well done all!
Dorota and Joanna completed this race, described as ‘a wild run like no other’. Dorota was 1st female in the 24km race.
Stuart Banbrook, Myles Davies, Bryan Pears and Steve Court completed the 26.2 mile course, described by Steve as:
Great weather and a fast mainly flat course produced some good times. About 3000 runners and also a metric marathon (26km) for those not wanting to run a full marathon.
