19 Sphinx AC runners (and friends) ran this weekend, with no first-timers and 2 PBs. Despite not being a member, Lucy Smith took first lady position and Sphinx AC had four men in the top ten. Fiona Quinn notches up yet another PB, edging ever-closer to the sub-10:00/mile club. 2 jackets were left in the The Bull after the handicap race in Brinklow last night. One is a black Paul & Shark yachting jacket, the other is an addidas blue top with yellow trim. Jackie Bagley has both jackets and will bring them to Lyng Hall school on Monday and to the club on Thursday.
A total of 41 runners, including 3 guests, took part in the first summer handicap race over a 5.5 mile course at Brinklow. Congratulations to Karen Timothy who crossed the line in second place but was the winner of the handicap as Nathan Formosa was a guest runner. We had 19 people running the course for the first time. There were PB’s from Ian Hamilton, Rob Anderson, Tracey Higgins, Mike Wall and Nick Gilkes.
Fourteen Sphinx AC runners took part in the second race in this year’s series, with Ashley Miles and Andrejs Blakunovs both winning their respective age category races (again!) Eight Sphinx AC men and four Sphinx AC women took part in this year’s British Masters’ road relays at Sutton Park. Each leg was a whisker under three miles, with a challenging uphill stretch pretty much straight out of the starting gate. The uphill stretch ended with a turn into a forceful headwind, which followed with some moderately undulating paths. After dodging the cows at mile two, the route was mostly through tree-lined road before the final turn into the home straight, which is frustratingly uphill back to the start/finish/handover area.
15 Sphinx AC and Saracens runners ran this weekend, with no first-timers and 1 PB. Good weather was probably a factor in setting another record-breaking attendance (372). Congratulations to Paul Slatford, who ran his 100th ParkRun today. Mitch Timms marshalled (and it really was needed, given the size of the field).
