Results for Coventry ParkRun, 09-Jun-2012

21 Sphinx AC runners/family/friends ran this weekend, with no first-timers and just the one PB – but it’s well-deserved and has been a long time coming! This run was also the maiden voyage for our new member, Pete Hall, who looked quite the part in a smashing blue and yellow running vest! Maggie Morgan and Paul Slatford expertly zapped finishing tokens and barcodes, while Paul Blanche marshalled enthusiastically and Jackie Stuart gave encouragement as a spectator today.

After two-and-a-half years of faffing around and feeble excuses, Pete Hall has FINALLY become a fully paid-up member of Sphinx AC! It was Pete that got me (Bern) to join Sphinx. In late 2009, I ran Coventry Half Marathon, then Coombe 8, then Massey’s Christmas “pace race” and felt that I was ready to join a running club. Pete was a well-established member of Massey’s but recommended that I joined Sphinx and that he would come over and train with us as the C&NW was literally at the end of his road.

Three Sphinx AC athletes took part in the first Coventry triathlon. The events were 400m swim, 20km cycle, 5km Run. 5 Sphinx AC runners made the trip down the M40 to the small town of Brackley, Northants for this 10k event. Mitch Timms provided this narrative: Although the rain was incessant, conditions for running were cool, calm and more or less perfect. The course was an ‘out and back’ pan-handle affair, circumventing a disused airfield en route. A couple of testing slopes and the decaying flat runway made it a challenging course.

It was a fantastic day out for Sphinx AC ladies, with Susan and Catherine Gough both chalking up their 50th ParkRuns, Fiona Quinn completing the course non-stop for the first time and Mary Bench demolishing her previous PB by around NINETY SECONDS.
