Sphinx AC were pleased to host our annual Summer 5 Junior 2km Fun Run prior to the 5 mile senior race. 34 junior athletes took part and pulled out excellent efforts all round. Everyone should be extremely proud of themselves. Thanks to the parents for bringing their children along. Sphinx AC really loves to see juniors taking part and it gives the current seniors something to worry about – to see who they will be competing against in future years!
We are happy to announce that our junior track nights at Lyng Hall will be returning on Monday 26th April. Due to upcoming bank holidays, training will not be held on 3rd May, and 31st May, however it will continue in the weeks around these dates. 6 hardy souls plus coaches made the hour long trip to Northampton to take part in the latest West Midlands Junior Cross country league, numbers were down in general due to the nasty wet weather on the day. The course was a good test of cross country skills as the course got sloppier and muddier as each race progressed, this was reflected in the times which were slower than previous events. Congratulations to all 6 who all ran well despite the conditions. One last meeting at Wolverhampton on 12th February. See you all there – Go on, you know you want to!

The 3rd meeting of the juniors Cross Country League took place at Perry Park on Sunday. 9 juniors made the short trip including 2 first timers Harry and Lucy. It was great to see 4 boys on the line for the Under 11’s race, would be good to get some support for the other races.
Next meeting at Northampton on 15th Jan 2017.

At the same time as the Combe 8 was taking place Sue Gough and Steve Court, junior team coaches were at the 2nd junior x country meeting at Warley Woods in Birmingham. A slightly disappointing turnout out of 7 juniors made the trip and ran their hardest on an undulating but scenic course. Very well done to all runners and supporters.
