Due to injury Rachael was not able to run but top supporting points acheived ,
A great day out
9 Sphinx ladies made the short trip to Warwick University for their final cross-country race of the league season. Well done to all those that have played a part during the season; the team finished in 23rd place in division 2.
Thanks to Wayne for the following report, and also for organising us so well over the season:
12 Sphinx made the trip back along the M42 to Droitwich ( different course to race 3 ) for the final league race of the season , the official Sphinx warm up was underway , i.e. Staying inside until the last possible moment before then giving it the full beans at the hooter ,with a sea of blue and gold leading the race through first 2 corners ,
With strong racing from everyone we managed to overtake the team ahead of us and finish in a brilliant 6th place out of 19 teams overall.
Well done and congratulations to Michael Gough in his first season as a senior , winning this season’s Sphinx cross country trophy .
A big thank you to everyone who represented the club throughout the whole season and making it a very enjoyable season
Thanks to Catherine Gough for the following report:
A sunny but windy 4th February saw UK Universities race at the BUCS (British Universities & Colleges Sport) Cross Country Championships in Graves Park Sheffield. It was an fun but tough 7.4k distance for the women’s race. Very hilly and muddy, featuring a hay bale jump and a short very steep part. Unlike some I stayed on my feet to finish 167 amongst the 619 runners!
A good turnout of 13 juniors competed in the first cross-country race of the season. All juniors did themselves and the club proud.
The second fixture is on the 20th November at Warley Woods (see the Juniors page for more details).
4 ladies and 2 men represented Sphinx well at the National cross-country championships, held at Donington Park. The focus was on running but the first outing of the new club shelter came a close second!
5 Sphinx juniors competed in the final cross-country league fixture of the season. Well done to Daniel, Caden, Michael, Sam, Annie and every junior (and coaches and parents) that represented the club throughout the season.
Sue, Lisa and Natalie took a trip up the M6 to Aldersley Stadium, Wolverhampton to compete in the final league race of the season. Final league standings are yet to be published but well done to everyone that represented the club throughout the season.
Both cars turning the wrong way out of Copsewood could have been mistaken for bad navigation but it was to pick up a spare club vest and a forgotten Garmin (to paraphrase Imran: if it’s not recorded, it didn’t happen). After that false start, both cars were on the way to Gloucester without any further wrong turns.
