Bryan Pears, Stuart Banbrook and Myles Davies went to Suffolk and took part in a Coastal Trail Series race.
Bryan and Stuart both did the coastal trail marathon in 4:48:27 for 27 miles.
Myles did the coastal trail ultra-marathon in 5:58:58 for 33 miles.

Perfect conditions on the day and a good quick course just a shame it’s all uphill on the last mile home
We have the following report from Wayne:
4 Sphinx ran in the 1st event of the tempo events winter series. The course took in part of the Hilly 100 leg 9 with a massive climb only half mile from the start, so after the lungs fell out it was time to settle down for the rest of the route around Ilmington and after that climb we we rewarded with a very long downhill back to the village . And a pack of sausages were handed to you at the finish as a race momento, which is a new one on me.
We have the following reports from our captains; firstly, Fiona:
The cross country relays took place in Uttoxeter which was the first time for all of us on the course so we didn’t know what to expect. The course was made up of two laps around Bramshall Road Park. The rain stayed away which was nice but it did mean that there wasn’t much slipping and sliding around the course. There were two water features but they were only small, I think these were included just to break us in gently in preparation for Leamington on the 7th November!!!! The race was an uphill finish which was tough going but thankfully there was tea and cake waiting for us at the end J

Four sphinx men and 6 ladies made the trip up north (although it was just about in the midlands) for the 5km relay in Uttoxeter. Equality playing a part we raced over the same distance as the ladies ,
Not a day for spikes as the ground was too hard especially the 200m tarmac path section which they forgot to mention on the course description. It did have 2 water crossings which acted like a warm up for Newbold Common next month !!!!!
Very high standard of running and we managed 34th place out of 38 teams. Although highlight of leg I was in 5th place going around the first corner, which was only 60mts from the start however that was as good as it got for the captain as then went backwards down the field. Well done to Sphinx ladies who again managed to put out two teams. Thanks to Fi for Photo’s.
7 Sphinx runners completed this off-road race, with course PBs for Mary and Mitch.
We have the following report from Jackie Stuart:
Took part in a 10k road race in the grounds of Blenheim Palace on 18th October. One lap around the palace roads with spectacular views when running towards the house. There was also a 5k race at the same time. Results include approximately 80 runners in this race.
A PB for Lore, top 5 for Andy and sub-20 for Ian for the first time since his hip-op.
6 juniors ran In the first event of the Warwickshire Cross Country league at Northampton. 3 first timers and 3 returning for another season. The weather was warm and sunny making for good conditions on a fairly tough undulating ( that means hilly) course. All ran great races and vowed to run again later in the season. Thanks to the parents for supporting all the juniors and to Jackie Timms, Sue Gough and Bob Carey for helping in the finish funnel.
In this week’s parkrun round-up we have a tale of three pacers and four PBs.
Pacers were in operation at Coventry and three Sphinxies took on the great power and responsibility that goes with the role. Andy and Imran were boosted by adrenalin and finished more than half-a-minute ahead of the advertised pace, while Sue was metronomic and precision personified by hitting the 30 minute mark exactly. Well done!
There were also three PBs at Coventry, with Brian, Will and Lucy beating their previous best times around the course. Further North, there was also a PB at Durham for Catherine. Well done to all!
Wallace Wayne and Gromitch Timms – A Grand Day Out
The skipper asked the vice-skipper if there was anything off-road coming up that he could use as training for the forthcoming xc season. The captain of men’s vice said that the Bells of Pattingham run sounded quite “appealing” (get it?) and so it was that we made our way up the M6 and M54 to the village of Pattingham, a few miles north of Wolverhampton. We both took our passports as both our navigation skills do leave a lot to be desired, to say the least. Fortunately we were in fine form on the directions’ front and the closest we came to the coast was the sign for North Wales. The run itself was a cracker; 7 miles off-road, through fields, on tracks and trails and a bit on road, with plenty of undulations to keep us both ‘happy’. Perfect weather for running too, cool, dry and no wind. An unusual finish though, in so much as at the 5 mile mark, you could actually ‘hear’ the finish as the church bells were ringing 2 miles away in the distance and, psychologically, you were lifted on the run-in as the bells got ever closer and louder. Just one small point, I just wish they’d get these off-road events measured a bit more accurately – as you can see from the captain’s photo, the distance from the start line to the finish line certainly doesn’t look like it was 7 miles! Oh, and just for the record, Wallace comfortably beat Gromit to claim the alternative ‘Captains’ Trophy.
