23 Sphinx AC runners/family/friends ran this weekend, with no first-timers and 1 PB. Conditions were sunny and bright, though a little chilly in the shaded parts, especially when the wind picked up. This week saw yet another course change, with a slightly easier start and less on-grass running. Sphinx AC junior Annie Cox took part in the Worcester Children’s Duathlon at the weekend, the third race of the British Triathlon Tristar and Youth Series. Competitors in this race are awarded points in a competition against other children from the six counties that form part of the West Midlands league. A Duathlon is a run, followed by a cycle and finished with a run. The event took place in the grounds of Worcester University, with a challenging cycle route and the running circuits taking place on an astro turf track.
12 Sphinx AC runners took part in the Corby 5, the 4th EMGP event of the series. The dreaded hill start and hill finish didn’t prevent Ashley Miles from recording his third consecutive 1st M40 placing in an impressive 27:48 (and 7th place overall on the night). Nor did it stop Laura Pibworth from knocking 3 minutes 5 seconds off her time from last year, around the same course, finishing in an excellent 43:18.
