Results for various ParkRuns, 10-Aug-2013

Oodles of Sphinx AC runners took part in far-flung ParkRun events this weekend. Cooler conditions at Coventry probably helped three of our runners get smashing new PBs on a slightly long course. The Foxalls went to see the balloons in the south-west and all ran with Chris’s sister and her husband. Fiona Quinn sneaks a cheeky ParkRun in whilst in Cheam on a strictly cultural visit and junior Annie Cox is our sole representative at Leamington.

Results for Coventry Ring Road Race, 10-Aug-2013

Nine Sphinx AC runners participated in this novelty event, racing against various types of bicycles on the closed-to-traffic inner loop of Coventry Ring Road. The course was 2.1 miles and pitted runners against quite a variety of pedal-powered vehicles. Amongst them were a Sinclair C5, vintage racing bikes, delivery bikes (with wicker baskets), an ice-cream bike, penny farthings etc. Whilst the conditions were good on the day, the ring road isn’t as flat as you may think!

Results for Birdingbury handicap, 18-Jul-2013

In complete contrast to June’s race, the Birdingbury handicap was run in temperatures of 30 degrees which had more effect on some of the runners as can be seen from the finishing times. Even so 43 runners, including 1 guest, lined up to take part over one of the toughest courses in the series, with 17 experiencing the ups and downs of this demanding route for the first time. The heat and oppressive conditions didn’t prevent new PB’s being set by Dave Kelly, Adam Barnes, Kyza Derby, Wayne Broadbent, Sue Gough, Bryan Pears, Jane Edwards and Karen Timothy.
