Results for the Wolverhampton Cross Country, 16-Nov-2014

On a damp, cloudy morning 8 brave Sphinx juniors dragged themselves and their parents out of bed to take part in the 2nd X country meeting of the season.

The start at Wolverhampton had been moved so the first 200 metres was a really tough slope which had to be negotiated at least once. After recent rain and lots of races the course was again very muddy more suited to spikes than road shoes.

All of the juniors put in good runs, many beating their times and placings from the last meeting at Hatton. Well done to all.

See you at the next meeting on 7th December. Details to follow soon.

Also, Coventry’s parkrun was excellently organised by the Wilkinsons and their support crew. Paul Slatford got a top 5 finish and two PBs were bagged at Coventry, with Bryan McSharry and Judith Anstiss surpassing their previous bests.

There was also some parkrun tourism, with Nigel Bassnet and Paul Cozens taking in Brueton, and the Stuarts visiting Bedfont Lakes.

Results for the Seagrave Wolds Challenge, 08-Nov-2014

9 Sphinx runners completed this unique challenge, described by the organisers as follows:

This event was devised to encourage exploration of the rolling countryside around Seagrave, and to raise money to help towards the refurbishment and upkeep of Seagrave Memorial Hall and to support other good causes.

The inspiration for ‘the Challenge’ came from Chris Thompson, a resident of Seagrave & a keen eventer who took part in similar walking/running/cycling events such as the Belvoir challenge, Viking challenge, Waltham Winder, and Sherrard Stride.

2014 is the 10th year of the event and the route is new and slightly longer at about 16 miles and uses areas never before used on the Challenge. A new experience for our Challengers.

We will be using footpaths, bridle ways, some private farm land, minor roads, and have been allowed to make our own route through a private golf course, which is not normally a right of way.

Refreshments will be available free throughout the event.

Our thanks once more go to our army of residents who provide admin, marshalling and catering services and of course make our famous crumble & custard for those completing the course.

4 Sphinx runners completed this event, with Darron describing it as:

Found this race as a bit of luck and I know it’s 2 laps of Draycote Water but it cost £12 to enter and you got a technical T shirt, medal, and a goodie bag full of all sorts of goodies.
Very well organised and you got a chip time.
Well worth the money and one for your diary.
