Thirteen Sphinx AC men turned out for the last of this season’s Birmingham League XC races. The melting snow meant that conditions varied underfoot from solid/ice to muddy in places. A number of Sphinx AC runners made the trip up to Nottingham to race in the Midlands XC championships. Conditions were quite favourable – there had been no rain and there was no wind to contend with. The course had a few challenging uphill stretches, which were balanced by a nice, long, downhill straight to the finish. Mitch and Jackie Timms represented Sphinx AC in this uninspiring marathon. Mitch says: This was one of the most tedious, soul-destroying races we have ever done. Two two-mile laps to start with followed by three seven mile laps. A 50k ultra event was being held simultaneously (four more laps of the same) so the course resembled spaghetti junction at times. That apart, well organised, moderately flat, only a couple of hills (well 2 x 3) and ideal weather.
