No, this isn’t a time-machine (direction of travel left to readers’ discretion). Mitch Timms picked up his “50” ParkRun t-shirt at the weekend. Although it may come as a surprise to many, Mitch has only (relatively) recently completed his 50th ParkRun. He’s physically attended many more than this though – on the days that he didn’t run, he’s supported, marshalled, directed, timed, tokened and generally “got stuck in” to help things run like clockwork.
Eight Sphinx AC runners ran this friendly half marathon around Draycote Water, with Ashley Miles comfortably winning the race outright and getting a PB in the process. Mike Wall and Quentin Henry also got some very impressive PBs too, with Mike joining the sub-1:30 club and Quentin breaking sub-7:00/mile overall. Sphinx AC junior Alfie Meade ran for Warwickshire Under 13 boys yesterday (10-Mar-2012) at Cofton Park in the Inter-Counties Cross Country Championships (televised live all day on Sky TV). Alfie finished 6th counter from 8 for Warwickshire in 168th place from 306 runners. Bearing in mind that the county teams are made up of the best 8 runners from each county this was a great result from Alfie. The Warwickshire under 13 boys team finished 14th of 40 teams.
24 Sphinx AC and Saracens runners ran this weekend, with no first-timers and 7 PBs. Kyza Derby won the race outright, improving his PB by 5 seconds in the process. A mix-up with ParkRun barcodes caused Sphinx AC’s Thomas Hopkins to be incorrectly credited with finishing second. It seems that Thomas Hopkins is related to Stuart Hopkins, the well-known and very able runner from Kenilworth Runners. Ten Sphinx AC runners took part in the latest of this 6-part series, with Ashley Miles – in his first appearance as a veteran – winning the race outright. Kyza Derby and Justin Smith also won prizes for their running efforts, whilst Janine Miles and Mitch Timms won prizes in the now-famous raffle afterwards! The conditions were VERY muddy, cold and wet with a tough headwind on the long, back straight.
23 Sphinx AC and Saracens runners ran this weekend, with 1 first-timer and 3 PBs. Sphinx AC juniors triumphed today, with Catherine Gough winning the women’s race and Thomas Hopkins storming home in second place. In a normal week, Thomas would have won the race outright but he was up against a real speed demon today (who recorded the fourth-fastest time ever for this course). SEE BELOW Susan “I’m not fast” Gough clocked up ANOTHER PB, which means she’ll be finishing the race before she starts by Christmas.
Coventry ParkRun have nominated Sphinx AC‘s Mitch Timms as ParkRunner of the month for February 2012. On the Coventry ParkRun news page, they say: Congratulations Mitch! We’d like to thank Hugh Brasher of Sweatshop for his generosity and to congratulate Mitch on his achievement. His prize is a new pair of running shoes fitted at the local Sweatshop.
