Nine Sphinx AC members made the short trip to Hampton in Arden for the 4th race in the Warwickshire Road Race League. Ashley Miles won the MV40 prize, setting a category record in the process. The conditions were good although there was a strong wind and about a mile of trail that had a lot of surface water. The winner took a minute off the course record having decided he wasn’t fit enough to run in the Olympic trials at Alexander Stadium!
Due to Coventry Memorial Park being unavailable this weekend, 12 Sphinx AC runners/family/friends made the trip over to Brueton ParkRun in Solihull. The trip was well worth it for Wayne Broadbent and Susan Gough, both clocking up very respectable PBs. 20 Sphinx AC runners/family/friends ran this weekend, with no first-timers and 2 PBs. Sphinx ladies triumphed yet again, as Mary Bench got YET ANOTHER PB (the fifth or sixth in as many races), while Amy Frank took over a minute off her previous PB. Conditions were tough today, with strong headwinds no matter which way you faced! Mitch Timms, Martin Judge, Julie Hall, Gerry Anstiss and Paul Blanche all helped out.
Nine Sphinx AC runners ran as guests in the latest of Northbrook’s handicaps. This is a very well-attended club handicap race, which uses the same 5k route every time – making it obvious when you’ve achieved a PB or a PW! The first half of the route is mostly uphill, including Staircase Lane in Allesley. Once you’ve reached the top of Brown’s Lane, it’s pretty much downhill all the way and the dovetailing becomes extreme.
