Results for Birdingbury handicap, 19-Jul-2012

Another fantastic turn out for the 3rd handicap race of the year with 53 runners starting making this one of the largest fields ever for a club handicap event. Unfortunately, illness and injury prevented Jayne Anderson and Matt Timothy from completing the testing 5 mile course around the villages of Birdingbury and Frankton. Nothing prevented Ian Hamilton from storming through the field to win the race in 35:31 over a minute clear of Pete Hall, who was running for the first time as a Sphinx member rather than a guest.

London Marathon 2013

The criteria for the club ballot for places in 2013 London Marathon was decided at the AGM following a proposal from the members present at the meeting. To qualify for the ballot that will be drawn on 1st December 2012 you must meet the following criteria Be a member of the club for 12 months prior to the draw. Have a rejection letter for a London marathon place. Run in 6 club events – defined as Summer Handicap races; WRRL races; Cross Country League races and Team relay events either road or cross country, since the date of the last draw.

45 Sphinx AC runners ran this fantastic local race with some excellent individual results – notably, Catherine Gough and Jackie Stuart, both winning their respective category prizes. Conditions were good – perhaps getting a little warm – and the field was brimming with quality runners from all the local clubs. 23 Sphinx AC runners/family/friends ran this weekend, with 2 first-timers and 2 PBs. The course was slightly long today, as it had to be re-routed due to flooding near Leamington Road. Paul Blanche, one of our recent guest runners, won the race. Jackie Stuart, Sue Gough and Maggie Morgan all helped out. 21 Sphinx AC runners/family/friends ran this weekend, with 2 first-timers and 1 PB. Ian Wilkinson took first place, Andy Wilkinson took second place and Paul Slatford took fourth place. In his first appearance, junior Alfie Meade absolutely stormed home in 20:50. Laura Pibworth ran her 50th run today, which earns her the red running top. Junior Chris Rouse also ran his 50th run today but because his barcode was at home, he’s listed as “unknown” in the results and this run won’t be officially counted.
