Sixteen Sphinx AC runners ran this friendly, local race with four of our runners finishing in the top ten and Ashley Miles winning his category prize. Congratulations also to our new Ladies’ Captain (Joint), Fiona Quinn, who knocked almost two minutes off her 5-mile PB. Conditions were dry and bright but a bit on the chilly side, especially when the wind picked up. Being at the Memorial Park, the race was an excellent event to attend as a spectator and it was easy to cheer on the runners.
35 Sphinx AC runners/family/friends ran this weekend, with 2 first-timers and 7 PBs. Trevor Clark took advantage of getting a Saturday morning off and did his first ParkRun, achieving the highest age-graded score of any Sphinx runner today. Newcomers Colin Piper and Steven Osmond both got PBs, as did juniors Adam Morrissey and Alfie Meade. Conditions were slightly chilly but bright and dry and the turn-out was high, but not record-breaking.
2 Sphinx AC runners/family/friends ran this weekend, with no first-timers and no PBs. The area around the course was snowy but the paths were clear. Both of us wore spikes in anticipation of slightly worse conditions than we encountered and the spikes probably worked against us. This is really friendly event, quite a bit smaller than Coventry and definitely recommended. The race HQ is at the pavilion at Newbold Coymn, so there are toilets and showers and somewhere dry to leave your bag.
Due to the inclement weather and the anticipation of Banbury 15 on the Sunday, just 9 Sphinx AC runners/family/friends ran this weekend, with no first-timers and 1 PB. Andy Wilkinson won the race outright and Sphinx AC had a total of four runners in the top six. At least 16 Sphinx AC runners ran the inaugural Warwick Castle half marathon, with two runners smashing their previous distance PBs by at least 12 minutes. Ian Wilkinson finished a very respectable 17th overall, with Andy Lovelock, Paul Slatford and Andy Wilkinson all finishing in the top 50. Official results are here but don’t allow filtering by club – which is why we can’t be 100% sure of how many Sphinx AC runners ran!

5 Sphinx AC runners/family/friends ran this weekend, with 1 first-timer and 1 PB. This was Leamingon’s 100th ParkRun and participants were encouraged to run in St. Patrick’s-themed fancy dress. Additionally, they decided to run the course in the reverse direction. The conditions weren’t great – it was wet and very muddy, really requiring spikes in many places. The cakes and coffee afterwards were good though đŸ˜€ Official results are here:

The lack of PBs was probably due to the course alterations resulting from work being undertaken to the paths within the park. Sphinx AC provided a number of volunteers for the various duties.
