Paul Cozens represented Sphinx AC this weekend, demolishing his course PB in the process. 28 At least 30 Sphinx AC runners/family/friends ran this weekend, with 1 first-timer and 1 PB. Alfie Meade bagged yet another PB, despite the switch-over to the “new” course, which is definitely PB-hostile. Newcomers Hamilton Ngan and Kirsty Mee ran as Sphinx AC members for the first time. Dave Kelly represented Sphinx AC this weekend, running with his son, Steve. 6 Sphinx AC runners took part in the rebranded Hinckley Half. The event was run over the same course as its predecessor, but numbers were significantly down over previous years. Race conditions were nigh on perfect. Meticulously organised and well marshalled with the usual “personalised” T-shirt at the finish. Well done to Paul Cozens on his “old gits’ PB” (his words, not mine) and congratulations to Fiona Quinn on completing only her second ever half-marathon despite her considerable protestations.

Sphinx AC juniors did extremely well recently at a track meeting in Leamington. Performances all round were excellent but some individuals really shone, including Joseph Gilkes, who set a club record for the long jump. Luke Makins, Laura Pibworth and Gerry Anstiss represented Sphinx AC today in the 10k event at the Kenilworth festival of running. Wayne Broadbent represented Sphinx AC at Newbold Comyn today, smashing his course PB in the process. Wayne took 21 seconds off his PB, which is no mean feat at Leamington. The course is 95% off-road and has a short, sharp uphill stretch near the golf course.
