11 Sphinx AC runners made the trip to Northampton for the third race of the East Midlands Grand Prix series. This is a new course for the competition and it proved to be a tricky one. A figure of eight with a very fast downhill to begin with, then a tough climb back up to the start itself, followed by an undulating circular route back to the finish. The cold wind didn’t help our cause, but at least it stayed dry for the duration.

Sphinx AC runners took part in a variety of ParkRun events this weekend. Adam Barnes took 40 seconds off his PB at Brueton, which was conducted on their “summer course” and newcomer Emma Hartley dipped under 30 minutes for the first time. Mitch Timms ran his 100th ParkRun and deservedly joins the “black running shirt” club. Coventry 13 Sphinx AC runners/family/friends ran this weekend, with no first-timers and 1 PB.

Results for Brinklow handicap, 16-May-2013

The second of this year’s Sphinx AC handicap races took place on a chilly evening; despite the cool weather a record turnout for this course of 53 runners took part. This included several members taking part in their first club handicap plus 3 guest runners. Setting competitive handicap times becomes tricky which is shown in the results with the first and second runners across the line not being caught by later starters, as they both ran 5 minutes quicker than their predicted time.
