Another wet night that has become the feature of Sphinx AC races this month did not deter the 34 hardy souls that turned out to run the 3rd race in this year’s summer handicap series. The wet conditions didn’t prevent another glut of personal best times for the course as 10 runners improved on previous times from Fiona Quinn taking a massive 8 minutes off her time from last year to Ashley Miles who improved his PB by 1 second.

Another excellent Sphinx AC turn-out with 14 runners making the trip to the sleepy village of Weedon in Northamptonshire for the penultimate race of this season’s EMGP. Fortunately for the six Sphinx debutants in this event, the course had been completely changed this year to the flattest 10K they are ever likely to do. If only that were true! Still the same circular route, still the same relentless hills, still the same sting in the tail at 6 miles.

Seventeen Eighteen Sphinx AC runners took part in this popular local event over an uncommon distance. Conditions were variable! The race started with an overcast sky, but it quickly cleared and things warmed up – but then there was the odd shower and the heavens opened just as things were wrapping up at the venue. The run itself was mostly over public roads but there was stretch around/near a fishing lake and the final uphill stretch was quite a sting in the tail.
