Tom Marchi recently went over to Belfast to take part in the World Police & Fire games and came home with an incredible THREE gold medals. Tom came first in the 5,000m (track), 10,000m (track) and first-in-category in the 10k cross-country races. Results for Race the Train & Fun Run, 17-Aug-2013

8 Sphinx AC runners and families went to Tywyn, Wales to run in the 30th running of this tough 14 mile cross country race, the object bring to beat the steam train back to the station. The weather as normal was fair until race time and then it rained and rained and the wind blew strong making the running even harder than normal. The outward 7 miles is mainly on undulating tracks and fields, the return takes you upwards on narrow sheep tracks, boggy mud and steep steps parallel to the train track before returning to the road back into town.

The final Thursday night race in this year’s summer series was well attended with a record turnout for this course of 48 runners. This made for a hectic dash to the finish line as 41 runners finished in a 4 minute period. Comfortably ahead of all this was the winner of the race, Amy Frank (46:33), who showed a good return to form in winning her second handicap out the last 3 races.
