Four Sphinx AC runners took part in this PB-friendly marathon in Oxfordshire. The course is largely flat – the steepest slope was the exit from an underpass. There are a few stretches of off-road but even so, this race truly lives up to its “PB-friendly” reputation. Starting and finishing on a running track, the course takes you through both urban areas (including the town centre) and scenic country paths. The huge number of marshals were all extremely encouraging and enthusiastic and the local support was terrific too.
With Abingdon marathon and Birmingham half marathon on Sunday, many Sphinx AC runners took it easy this weekend. Junior Jude O’Connor didn’t, though – demolishing his PB by about 90 seconds! Sphinx AC were represented at just two ParkRuns this weekend. The soggy conditions, coupled with events on Sunday, meant that Mick Pelling achieved the only PB this week. Sphinx AC supplied five teams for the hugely enjoyable XC relays at Walsall Arboretum. Each runner ran two 3k laps (so a total of 6k, ~3.75 miles each). Uncharacteristcally for an XC event, conditions were dry, bright, mild and there was no wind! The course was also largely flat, with only a slight rise in the approach to the finish and we were spared any surprise ditches or mudbaths. Official results are here (PDF):
