Results for the Monks Kirby Village Races, 19-Jun-2010

A number of Sphinx AC runners, juniors and family members ran in events associated with Monks Kirby’s Village Fete. There are two races held in conjunction with the Monks Kirby Village Fete. In the 3 mile race, Sphinx AC’s Collin Taylor, who is also a Village Elder, was a clear winner with Nick Gilkes and Pete Delaney the other Sphinx runners in the race. This is followed by a 1 mile race in which we had the first boy in Scott Truslove and the first girl, the rapidly improving Hannah Downing.

Rob Anderson ran the Malvern Midsummer Marathon yesterday, complete with boots and 42lb bergen. Straight from the horses’s mouth: I did the Malvern Midsummer Marathon yesterday, bloody hell this one’s a toughie, up and down all the Malvern Hills! I did it in boots with a 42Lb Bergen on, and got round in 9hrs 10mins, and my legs shoulders and back are suitably aching today! Official results will appear via the link below when ready.

All the usual events are available but there will be no javelin this time, there will be a discus throw instead. The forms will be out for the next few Monday nights at Lyng Hall for you to sign up to whatever event you would like to do. Remember that we can only put two athletes in any event, and only one in the high jump.

Ben Orme was the sole Sphinx AC runner in this under-publicised, challenging 10K, taking 1st place in his category. Ben’s report: I took part in the the Threshold Summer Series 2010 Race 1 on Saturday June 12. 10km distance for this all-terrain race with many ups and downs and hardly any flat running.

Juniors : U11 League fixture

Warwickshire Under 11 League : There are still two more fixtures this year in this League. Athletes must be in Years 3, 4 or 5 to participate. It’s the perfect introduction to athletics for our younger members, very informal and supportive. Each fixture consists of a 75m sprint, 600m run, a Long Jump and a chance to throw the ‘howler’. The next meeting is on Wednesday 23rd June at Pingles Stadium, Nuneaton.
