Thanks to Steve Court for the following report: A contingent of Sphinx and family and friends escaped snowy England a few weeks ago to holiday for a week and take in the Pathos Marathon and Half Marathon. 3 runners took on the full distance which started on the coast, took in the airport and then a very dull stretch of dual carriageway before finishing in the harbour. Not the most scenic of courses but there was beer at the end.
Jackie and Mitch Timms completed the half-marathon and Rachael Allen completed the full marathon, beating her previous best for a trail marathon by over an hour. Thanks to Collin Taylor for the following report: Many of you will already be familiar with the popular Abingdon Marathon. Located just south of Oxford a ‘flat and fast’ course awaits those prepared to forego a Sunday morning lie-in to beat the 8.00 am road closures and be on the start line ready for the 9.00 am kick off. The start and finish centres around the athletics track at Tilsley park where the race starts before heading off in to the lanes of Oxfordshire.
Thanks to Darren Hallett for the following report and photo: I decided to give the inaugural Birmingham Marathon a go. Starting at Alexander stadium the course cuts through the middle of the city centre before heading out towards Bourneville (via Edgebaston) for a couple of 9 mile loops before finishing back in the centre. The course was wall marshalled and support was steady throughout. Other than one steep hill near Bourneville the course was relatively flat with only a couple of areas of undulation.
Thanks to James Abrams for the following report: just completed my 3rd marathon at Chester which course wise turned out to be the toughest!my research told me different. Still a new challenge with a few lumpy bits thrown in after mile 20 (just what you want!). Lots of nice country lanes after the usual city start of a tour of the city. They run a metric marathon at the same time so they are sharing the back end of the course meaning a lot fresher runners seem to be flying pass me.
Thanks to Phil Wilson and Steve Court for the following reports: PW: Ston is a small town approximately 40 miles north of Dubrovnik in Croatia. Ston has the longest town walls in Europe, second only to the great wall of China, and it also holds a marathon which involves running along the walls. So a group of Sphinxies thought we would give it a go. Myself, Stuart, Bryan and Scourty ran the marathon and ex Sphinxie Garry Capell ran the 15K.
Thanks to Jackie Stuart for the following report: On Sunday 24th September, Kathryn Stuart completed her first proper road marathon. Weather conditions were reasonable, intermittent showers, no wind and not too cold. She was 6th lady and 61st overall in a fantastic time of 3 hours 6 minutes and 52 seconds.
