With Coventry parkrun not on this week, Sphinx runners were scattered to numerous parts of the middle-lands of England in search of their parkrun fix. As a consequence there were numerous debuts and 2 PBs – well done to Steven Osmond and Catherine Gough.

In descending order of Sphinx runners:

Results for the Corley h/c, 13-Aug-2015

The last evening race of this year took place over the usual route in Corley, 41 runners took part over one of the hardest courses used in the handicap series as it involves a long 2 mile climb up Wall Hill Road that just seems to go on forever.

It is however, a course that appears to suit this year’s winner, Alan Patrick (40:31). Following his 3rd place last year, Alan won the event in 2012 and finished 4th in 2011, if you want to know what happened in 2013 you’ll have to speak to Alan as it wouldn’t be right for me to say he finished 43rd out of 48 starters. Following Alan home were Suresh Basra (49:13) and Vicki O’Brien (47:05). The quickest run of the evening was by Andy Wilkinson (31:47) with Paul Slatford (34:13) and Pete Fahy (34:19) making up the top three.

There were a few highlights on a warm parkrunday: Coventry parkrun was excellently directed by our very own Sue Gough; congratulations to Imran Ali on his 100th parkrun; and Andy McIntosh enjoyed the hospitality of Antrim parkrun on his travels.

Results for the Lutterworth 5, 02-Aug-2015

Nice low-key affair this one. 6 Sphinxes made the short trip to rural Leicestershire. Starting and finishing at Lutterworth Rugby Club, taking in the villages of Bitteswell and Ullesthorpe and the surrounding countryside. Warm, but not stifling, however still would have welcomed a water station en route. Definitely undulating with a couple of nice slow inclines thrown in. Good to see Colin ‘The Pied’ Piper getting back to form and fitness, leading the way as is tradition 🙂 and coming home in 12th place overall (32:11). Finally, congratulations to Dave West on his 5 -mile PB (34:10) after a titanic struggle with Andy Mr Consistency McIntosh (34:29).

Results for various parkruns, 01-Aug-2015

A bumper parkrun weekend with Wayne Broadbent and Jane Edwards hitting their century of parkruns, with Wayne securing a new Leamington PB in the process. Darren Hallett seems to be enjoying the Polish hospitality as he smashed his previous PB with an 18:12 time and 7th place.

Elsewhere there was plenty of parkrun tourism in evidence. In addition to Darren at Krakow, Tom Marchi made his debut at Southend, Alex Bartlett making his bow at the impressively title Queen Elizabeth parkrun and Jayne Phelps completed Daventry for the first time.

Finally, Andy Wilkinson ran well and finished 4th at Coventry.

Phew…well done to all!

Flat ‘n fast this one. Perfect running conditions too – cool, with a light breeze and just before the deluge of rain swept in!

5 mile PB for Andy Mac (33:47) and great to see Bergs running well again and getting back to full fitness (36:38 and 6th in the Old Gits’ category). Fastest 5 miler of the year for yours truly too (35:30), so happy days!

Bring on the Lutterworth 5 next Sunday. Be good to get a group of us out for this local event.

Result for the Trailblaster 12, 21-Jun-2015

Alex Bartlett gave us the following report for the Trailblaster12:

It was a 12 hour endurance race on a 5km course in Burnley I did with my sister Vicki, Brother-in-Law James and friend Tanya (her boyfriend Gareth did a token 10km in the middle to make a team of 5). I started it at 8am and Vicki finished at 8pm. We all did 10km in one go around lunchtime. The four of us ran 35km each (21.7 miles) making total of 150km between all five of us. I averaged 22:30 per 5km and we finished 3rd out of 9 teams in the mixed event. James averaged 20 mins and the girls averaged 25 mins. Was really hard and had a massive hill near the start, but was enjoyable and we celebrated afterwards with drinks and pizza. I would recommend it to anyone. Here’s the website if anyone’s interested in doing it – http://cannonballevents.co.uk/trailblaster-12/
