Results for the Rugby 10, 27-Sep-2015

17 Sphinx runners made the short journey over to Barby to complete the challenging Rugby 10 mile race in warm, sunny conditions. This race was also designated as the club’s 10 mile handicap, so the runner that has beaten their handicap (as set by Richard) will be the winner. The results of that will follow at a later date.

There were quite a few PBs, with (according to runbritain) David West, Jamie Richards, Ian Hamilton, Paul Bergin (I suspect that old records are held on papyrus and not easily available), Laura Duggins and Lisa Abbott all setting new 10 mile bests.

Results for various parkruns, 26-Sep-2015

Another bountiful parkrun Saturday, including a parkrun debut, PBs, top 5 finishes, parkrun tourism and volunteers.

Coventry saw Jamie Richards run (and walk) his first ever parkrun – a PB is expected every time now! Andy Wilkinson and Paul Slatford took two of the top 5 positions, in 3rd and 5th respectively. There were PBs for Ian Cunningham, Will Robertson and Ella Wilkinson. There were also a few Sphinx volunteers, namely, Sue and Catherine Gough, Imran Ali, Kevin Dick and Andy Hales.

Gerry and Judith Anstiss visited Woodhouse Moor (Leeds) again, and Steven Osmond and Nigel Bassnett attended Brueton.

Results for the Equinox 24, 19/20-Sep-2015

We have the following report from Ian Cunningham:

At the weekend I run as part of a team of 7 runners from my works in Equinox 24 at Belvoir Castle.

The event is a 24 hour challenge where teams, pairs or Solo’s complete 10k laps.

The course is in the grounds of Belvoir castle and was a tough 10k course set off road and on private roads.

The team managed to complete 23 laps totalling 230k equivalent to 143 miles finishing 79 out of 161 teams.

I completed 4 laps

The 1st leg in 53 minutes

The 8th leg a third in twilight and two thirds in the dark in 55 minutes

The 14th leg in the dark in 67 minutes

The 21st leg in 63 minutes.

This has to be one of the best running events I have ever taken part in and lots of running clubs had teams in so anyone up for next year?

Results for the Tamworth 5, 20-Sep-2015

We have the following report from our undercover brother, Mitch:

Strange course this one, think Milton Keynes 10K and Brueton Park Run rolled into one, starting on the track of Tamworth Athletics Stadium. Plenty of mild undulations and a warm day made this a nice test. Well organised and plenty of my fellow club runners taking part 🙂

Results for the Midlands Road Relays, 19-Sep-2015

Thanks to our captains for the following reports from the road relays, held at Sutton Park. Also, thanks to Ninj and Fiona for the photos.

Fiona:

The Sutton Park Road Relays took place on Saturday 19th Sept, where Sphinx had two ladies teams and one men’s team running. The weather was a bit on the hot side but all three teams did so well. It was great to see the team cheering each of our runners up the last stretch to the finish line. We would have definitely won the award for the loudest support team. Thank you to all the cake bakers, they were excellent, its the men’s turn next to make something but we could be waiting a while for that to happen 🙂

Wayne:

I decided to take a look into the Mitch Timm’s book of navigation and promptly got us well and truly lost about 1 mile from the park entrance , luckily Andy on leg one had about 10 min’s to get to the start, thanks to everyone including the ladies who again put out two teams for representing the club. And a special mention thanks and well done to Lee for running today , and I speak on behalf of everyone at the club I’m proud to run with him and wish him all the best in his continued recovery

Results for various parkruns, 19-Sep-2015

A bumper parkrun edition, including a first-finisher, some PBs, plenty of parkrun tourism and first-timers, including a report from Temple Newsam.

Andy Wilkinson was again the first person over the line at Coventry – the 3rd time in the last 5 Coventry parkruns – well done, Andy. Paul Slatford followed up last week’s 250th parkrun with a PB this week and there was also a PB for Imran Ali; well done, Paul and Imran.

parkrun tourism saw the Timms at Temple Newsam, the Halletts at Poole, Alex Bartlett at Alice Holt and Jayne Phelps at Aberystwyth.

The Timms sent in the following report from Temple Newsam:

First time at this Park Run for Jackie and myself and it was an absolute delight. Temple Newsam is a Tudor-Jacobean house with grounds landscaped by Capability Brown, in Leeds. The estate lies to the east of the city, just south of Halton Moor. The two-lap course took you along paths and trails throughout the grounds, with a steep slope up to the main house to start; this is followed by a rapid descent, before returning on a gradual climb to the start line for a second lap. Stunning views throughout and picturesque countryside made this a really pleasurable run. The run was all the more enjoyable because we ran it with our daughter, Katie and her partner Tom Padgett, who unbeknown to me, have both been doing the NHS Couch to 5K course

This was their first ever Park Run and they both achieved a very respectable time on a tough course. Definitely one to do again.

Go is for lovers

Hugo uses the excellent go html/template library for its template engine. It is an extremely lightweight engine that provides a very small amount of logic. In our experience that it is just the right amount of logic to be able to create a good static website. If you have used other template systems from different languages or frameworks you will find a lot of similarities in go templates. This document is a brief primer on using go templates.

Paul Slatford notched up his 250th parkrun and secured a top 5 finish as well. Well done, Paul, we look forward to seeing the 250 shirt when it arrives.

Also at Coventry, Darren Hallett’s wife, Ruth, made her parkrun debut.

Andy Wilkinson continued his fine form with a PB at Cannon Hill. Andy Hales took in the Gateshead parkrun for the first time, ahead of his Great North Run participation.
