Jackie Stuart completed this 10.4 mile, multi-terrain race, reporting:
On Sunday 7th I drove over to Stourbridge to take part in the 25th Stourbridge Stagger. The weather was good, cool but clear and dry. I parked in Stourbridge College (plenty of parking) with loads of time to spare and walked down to the start.
This was the first time I had taken part in the longer race; I have run in the ladies only 7k on about 3 occasions. Both runs start together in Mary Stevens Park and follow the same route for about 2 miles before splitting off. This is a multi-terrain run so I expected mud – I wasn’t disappointed! The route goes around football pitches, across a golf course, up and down muddy trails and paths, up some hills (sliding down some hills), around fields and a few roads before returning to the park.
I actually enjoyed this run more than the ladies 7k, even though I fell over. Lucky that there was a bit of mud to land on!There was more variety in the terrain and great views. It was well signed and marshalled, especially at road crossings. All runners received a memento at the end – a bright red towel which I will be showing off in the changing room after training. Sorry guys, ladies viewing only!
If you want to do this run be aware that it fills up early.
Bryan Pears and Kev Naughton completed the 30th Charnwood Hills race, a 14 mile cross-country run.
7 Sphinx runners completed the 4th race of the series, covering 5 mixed-terrain miles. Despite the windy conditions, Steve set a PB.
Happy 6th birthday to Coventry parkrun and happy 200th parkrun to Mitch.
A big thanks to Jason and the team(s) for their dedication over the last 6 years.
The conditions at Coventry were on the damp side with rain, rain and a bit more rain. Lisa and Lore didn’t allow that to slow them down and registered PBs.
7 ladies and 3 men represented Sphinx at the Midland XC Championships, held at Loughborough.
The next cross-country fixtures take us back to the league on the 13th February, with the ladies travelling to Wolverhampton and the men to Gloucester. Please contact the respective captains if you want to take part.
There was a good number of Sphinx runners starting the weekend with a parkrun, across many locations.
Andy Wilkinson finished in the top 5 at Coventry, Alex Bartlett had a birthday run around Black Park and, hold on to your hats as some parkrun trivia comes flying at you, Mitch was 199th male on his 199th parkrun!
This week’s Coventry parkrun was brought to you by the A team of Ian and Andy Wilkinson, plus Sarj but not Paul Slatford (a louder alarm clock may be required!).
Well done to Steve Colbourne for setting a PB in slippy conditions.
Mitch and Jackie S competed in one of the oldest races in Northamptonshire, a cross-country race over approximately 6 miles.
