Results for the Prague marathon, 08-May-2016

Steve Court has provided the following:

5 Sphinx runners and family flew to Prague in the Czech Republic last weekend to run the 2016 Prague Marathon. The run is mainly flat and goes through the picturesque old town and across the rivers many bridges, there are many cobbled sections and tram tracks to negotiate making for a tough run. Hot and glorious sunny conditions on the day meant times were a little longer than expected but we were all counted out and back again in time to take advantage of the many bars and cafes in the town. There is also a 4 * 10k ish relay option for those who would not fancy a full marathon and as the flight is only 90 minutes from the UK it would be an ideal location for a spring break.

Result for the Snowdonia half-marathon, 22-May-2016

Wayne has provided the following report:

That was a absolute monster of a half , having climbed over a mile right at the very start it continued to with constant changes in elevation all the way to 11 mile when the race organizers put in a pretty big sting in the tale, a mile climb over 1in 7 gradient, i managed too run about half way up before having to walk , hands on knees just trying to get some oxygen into me lungs, so no extra medal for me this time !!!! before a very steep and slippery descent back into the finish. Good luck to everyone who is running the Snowdoina full in October.( start doing hill reps and lots of them )

thrown into the mix was that famous north wales summer day ( it chucked it down and into a head wind all the way round ). even though it was the hardest half marathon i have run it was also one of the most scenic , going through forest, passed lakes and mountains in the backdrop.

my time was 1hr 55.37 and 21st in me age cat and 111th

Result for the Gaddesby 7, 22-May-2016

Mitch has filed the following report:

It seemed strange going to Gaddesby (home to the infamous Gaddesby Gallop) in the middle of summer, but I had high hopes for this event (the 2nd race of this year’s Leicestershire Road Race League), primarily because it was only my 2nd 7-mile race ever and I was starting to fantasize about Personal Bests n’ stuff…..

Three factors soon put paid to that whimsical notion:

a) the Leicester Alps (mile 2 required ropes and crampons)

b) the temperature, and

c) a complete lack of motivation – I didn’t know a single other runner there, so had no-one to try and beat and no-one to try and catch. There wasn’t even anyone from my ‘other’ club, S.D.R.R. (that’s South Derbyshire Road Runners by the way, not sex, drugs and rock and roll!).

So, a pleasant jog in the sunshine came to pass. Nice scenic route though, well-organised and a draw-string bag at the finish (I’ll use it to put all my other draw-string bags in J) made it just about worth it.

No photos as Jackie did not accompany me and my 2007 ‘Nokia 2310’ doesn’t do piccies (well it might do but I don’t know how to work it yet).
