A reminder to be vigilant at Copsewood Club

Unfortunately, Ian Cunningham’s car was broken in to last Thursday at Copsewood Club so please remain vigilant with your valuables – park in a well-lit and visible parking place, if possible, and don’t leave anything of value in your car if you can avoid it. Hopefully this is an isolated incident but Sphinx will make Copsewood Club aware of this and see if anything can be done. Thanks to Ian for bringing this to our attention and asking for this message to be passed on to fellow club-mates.

Result for the Kevin Henry 5k, 04-Aug-2016

Catherine Gough has sent the following report:

This summer I’ve been staying in Cambridge and been training with the welcoming Cambridge Triathlon club.

Kevin Henry 5k series is an interclub league run by Saffron Striders, Cambridge & Coleridge AC, Haverhill Runners, Newmarket Joggers, Ely running Club and Cambridge Triathlon Club. It is a team event with each runner adding to the clubs score. The first 6 male and first 6 female score points, with each extra club member scoring a minus point, with the aim of scoring the lowest number of points to win.

This race was in Haverhill and had a similar course to Northbrook 10k. Uphill for the first half, with one major hill, downhill for the second half. Enjoyable, but the rain made the road very slippy!

Results for Race The Train, 20-Aug-2016

Garry Barnes, Pete Fahy and Craig Pears were all hoping to beat the train in this unique event, described as:

Race the Train takes place alongside as far as practicable the route taken by the Talyllyn Railway on its journey to Abergynolwyn and back. In order to do this all courses use a mixture of public roads, lanes, un-metalled roads, tracks, agricultural land, and rough grazing pastures. The terrain varies all the time and can be very wet & muddy in places, the routes also ascend and descend quite steep terrain and runs on narrow footpaths with little chance of overtaking. Often the Train, or for many runners the track, is just over the fence and in many places if you coincide with the train your family friends, if they are on the train, will be able to shout encouragement to you.
