Results for the Seagrave Wolds Challenge, 12-Nov-2016

Thanks to Mitch Timms for the following report:

New course this year and a mile longer! 16.78 miles according to the Garmin. Still one of my favourite off-road events though, with the usual town crier to greet us, gourmet feeding stations en route and home-made soup and rhubarb tart and custard at the end. Filthy conditions throughout made it all the more enjoyable! Such a pity it clashes with the first XC league race every year.

Elsewhere, Kathryn Stuart was the first lady across the line at Rushcliffe parkrun; Pete and Thomas Morgan went to Parke parkrun for the first time; and Kev Naughton made his first appearance at Daventry parkrun.

Results for the Warwick University XC relays, 05-Nov-2016

Thanks to captain Wayne for the following report:

A good way to warm up before our 1st xc league race next Saturday, and that is to take on the best that Warwick uni has to offer!!!! Over a 2 mile course around the sports grounds

Well that was the plan till our solitary Sphinx team rolled up and witnessed something called a warm up ( whatever one of them is )

Being carried out by a lot of very fast moving 1921 yr old s

Oh dear said rob fearing an almighty kicking, but then we spotted a more realistic target a full herd of northbrook rolled into view ,

One of Which was well in our sights till the captain on the last leg went well off course and ended up looking at a barn full of sit on grass mowers

( someone needs to by that bloke a map and compass)

Good fun , good sights and good cake what more do you need from a Saturday morning, and no where near Leicester!!!!!

Hopefully we can also get a full herd out next week for the 1st league race at burbrigde common, I will send email out later this week with times and directions

Results for the Candleford Canter Ladies 10k, 30-Oct-2016

Thanks to Lisa Abbott for the following write-up:

After a run of recent Pb’s Vickie did some research and found us a ‘Flat 10’ so with her support crew ; Holly and I in place we set of to Bicester for the Candleford Canter Ladies 10k.

With our friendship hanging in the balance the only thing could come between us was time 😉 As we arrived at the local Village hall we soon spotted an array of homemade cakes for after. The race had a lovely community feel to it. As the women ran and the Men marshalled and a late 11am start an uncertainty filled the air of was gonna cook the Sunday Lunch? As we set off to the sound of a very over the top starting pistol it was like being back in the dark suburbs of Bell green.

Within a minute we turned a corner we were met with a hill swiftly followed by another and then an off road section. As I ran through the rough terrain I recalled Vickie’s false promises and realised it was all just part of the Victoria Hand sales patter. I couldn’t help but feel it was a revenge tactic for the ‘Flat’ Greenway 10 miler I put her through in July. The rest of the route was relatively flat. As I was coming into finish I decided on a mini sprint finish to overtake the lady in front of me, she later came over and said “Well done” and then went onto win the Vet 65 Category. Took the shine off it a tad! The award for true sportsmanship went to our honorary sphinx Holly who helped someone over the line whilst we desperately willed her to ‘take her’ ! Flat it was not but Vickie still left with her 10k Pb by 2 minutes taking her to the sub one hour club. “She came, she saw, she conquered. Well done Vickesh 🙂
