Thanks to Andy Mc for the following photos and report:
…off roader 7ish miler, finished off with mulled wine & mince pies.
Also well done to Dave West for winning some lovely Yankee Candles in the raffle.
A bumper parkrunday yesterday, with PBs, a Race Director debut, fancy dress and a crutch…and that was just at Coventry!
At Coventry, well done to Imran Ali on his smooth debut as Race Director. Also, well done to Pawel Langer, Vicky Brewin, Thomas Morgan and Ella Wilkinson on thier PBs. This parkrun was also designated as the Christmas fancy dress run and there were Santas, xmas jumpers and a great effort by Andy Mc, Jane Edwards and Ninj to don reindeer and penguin costumes.
Elsewhere, Ian Cunningham and Hamilton Ngan made the trip to the 2nd Rugby parkrun; Louis Carver set a new parkrun PB at Brueton; and Mitch and Jackie Timms were first-timers at Leicester Victoria ahead of the Gaddesby Gallop.
6 Sphinx runners completed the second race n the series, with Kevin and Nigel going quicker than last time.
Thanks to Steve for the following report:
The 3rd meeting of the juniors Cross Country League took place at Perry Park on Sunday. 9 juniors made the short trip including 2 first timers Harry and Lucy. It was great to see 4 boys on the line for the Under 11’s race, would be good to get some support for the other races.
Next meeting at Northampton on 15th Jan 2017.
6 Sphinx runners completed this popular, festive half-marathon around Keyworth, Nottingham.
Thanks to Mitch for the following report from the inaugural Rugby parkrun:
100% tourism and course pb’s all-round at this, the inaugural Rugby Park Run. A double lapper round football pitches, with a tricky downhill stretch through some newly planted trees followed by a tough muddy uphill climb out of the fledgling forest made for a challenging course; all the more so as probably 80% of the whole course was off road. Trail shoes next time, but overall a nice run – if you like your cross-country!
Elsewhere, congratulations to Vickie Hand on completing her 50th parkrun and getting a PB in the process! There were also PBs for David Brewis and Imran Ali at Coventry, as well as a fine first parkrun by Pawel – well done!
Thanks to Wayne for the following report:
Another great turnout with 13 sphinx making the long trip down to plock court in Gloucester, news of sphinx recovery beer must be spreading as we again meet for a cheeky 1 after the race .
it’s the first time we have been able to race the full course as normally the river is in flood turning the course into a rice paddy field, another strong run from the blue and gold means we are sitting in 7th place at the halfway stage, hopefully we can maintain and even climb higher up the league with the next races,
Thanks to everyone who ran, the next race is Saturday 14th January at droitwitch high school
7 Sphinx ladies completed the second cross-country race in the league season on a tough course at Welcombe Hills, Stratford…2 down, 2 to go. The next league race is on 14th January 2017 at Wolverhampton.
We have two sets of results (the International Running Challenge, and the Sphinx Sports Personality) plus a video of the four racres that make up the challenge.
Firstly, a report from Mitch on the Sphinx Sports Personality Superstars competition:
In this year’s ‘Lanzarote Sphinx Sports Personality’ competition, comprising 29 different events held over 7 days, Slats trounced the rest of the field and was a deserved winner with a grand total of 97 points. He finished last in 2015, but this year, turned the tables, winning almost half of the events outright. The Men’s Vice-Captain and Captain had a hard fought battle throughout, with the former only defeating the latter on the final afternoon in the penalty shoot-out; however it must be said that Wayne did suffer on the runs throughout, mainly from the ‘runs’, which he blames on dodgy prawns – nothing to do with the half bottle of banana liqueur that Karen force-fed him on the Sunday night! Wilko finished in 4th place, but he too struggled during the completion with an achilles issue, which restricted the number of events he entered (he would probably have won the cycle race though had he not cried off because he didn’t have his special gloves???). Roll on 2017…
