James Abrams, Kev Dick and Vicky Hand completed this popular 10k race. Thanks to James for the following report:
Brand new route this year but still with a tough uphill finish bar the last 400m! Down hill tailwind 5k then the return via a loop of Edgbaston cricket ground then into Canon park. At one point I was mixing it with the Kenyans but that was at finish near the podium while receiving their medals! I will never get that close to them again
8 Sphinx runners completed the second race in the Warwickshire Road Race League, with a course that starts and finishes on a running track.
Thanks to Mitch and Jackie Timms for the following report and photos:
Not done this since 2001 and I‘d forgotten just what a cracking event it was. The event is a Long Distance Walkers one, organised by Waendel Walkers Club, based in the village of Wilbarston in Northants, not far from the EMGP Corby 5 start at Carlton Country Park. Open to walkers and runners alike with three routes of differing lengths: a full marathon of 42 kms, an intermediate course of 26 kms and a shorter one of 11.7 kms.
No marshals en route, so we had to get ourselves round using the written instructions given to us at the start, but this just added to the occasion.
Also, no prizes and no results, but can’t complain at just a quid to enter, yes one whole pound! Full English afterwards for £3.50 (or beans on toast, again one pound!). 7.5 miles of beautiful countryside, picturesque villages, well-trodden footpaths and stunning views over the Welland Valley, plus the odd herd of cows and bulls (some a bit too close for comfort!). Jackie and I (and later Kev Naughton) opted for the 11.7K route and I am delighted to report that the Sphinxees were the first three runners home, indeed we were the only runners on the short route, but you can only beat what’s put in front of you! Times were, well, completely irrelevant….
Take a look at the piccies.
PBs aplenty at Coventry and first-time appearances at Moors Valley and Banbury.
Congratulations and well done to Pete Fahy, Andy McIntosh, Lore Paterson, Imran Ali and Isabel Robinson on PBs at Coventry.
Elsewhere, Darren Hallett was a first-timer and finished 3rd at Moors Valley, and The Carvers were first-timers at Banbury.
Congratulations to Mark Moran, Sue Gough, Kevin Dick and Vicki O’Brien on completing the 2017 London Marathon, cheered on by super-supporters Fi and Chrissy. Mark achieved a sub-4hr time, which was a PB by half-an-hour! Sue’s time was just over 4 hours and included the impressive feat of negative splitting. Kevin Dick and Vicki O’Brien both finished in less than 4 3⁄4 hours, possibly a PB for both.
Well done to the runners and supporters!
Thanks to Ian Cunningham for the following report:
The event was all off road on forest paths and private tracks in private areas of the Sherwood Forest and within the beautiful grounds of Thoresby Hall.
Finished 85th in a chip time of 1 hour 54 minutes and 32 seconds
Another parkrun Saturday brings more PBs and parkrun tourism.
Congratulations to Brian McSharry and John Ementon for their PBs at Coventry, and to Colin Piper for his PB and 3rd place at Rugby.
David West and Wayne Broadbent were first-timers at Stratford-upon-Avon, as was Jamie Cozens at Newbury.
Thanks to Wayne for the following report:
The Guiseley Gallop 10k was followed up on Monday with the Ackworth half marathon in 1hr 39.30, a really small event around closed roads around the villages just south of Castleford , that included a monster climb for last 2 mile , not quite as busy as great north run !!!
Thanks to Wayne for the following report (part 1 of 2):
Easter Sunday Guiseley off road trail 10km , a cracking 2 lap course through the woods and hills with bottle of beer as race momento in 50.24
