Nick Gilkes represented Sphinx AC in yet another large half marathon (11,000+ finishers), and he also managed to achieve a PB in the process. Thirteen Sphinx AC runners took part in the penultimate race in this season’s races. Favourable conditions meant that several course PBs were achieved. Wayne Broadbent demolished his half marathon PB – his second PB of the weekend, and Ben Orme finished second-in-category – an amazing achievement given the size of the field. 26 Sphinx AC runners/family/friends ran this weekend, with 2 first-timers, 4 PBs and one equalled PB. Conditions were good and the field was large, but not record-breaking. 8 Sphinxies turned up in the wilds of Leicestershire for this cracking multi-terrain run, 2 for the marathon and 6 for the 15 mile. It was a cold but clear morning with the north wind whistling across the tops of the hills, but not as much mud as feared. Great food choices and hot drinks at the checkpoints and great soup and pudding at the end. Please note that Lorraine’s number was 666!

Kathryn Stuart was the sole Sphinx AC representative at the national cross country championships held at Herrington Park, Sunderland. Out of a field of 427 she finished in a very respectable position of 116 despite a very uncharacteristic, extremely late arrival.
