Results for Woodhouse May Day Challenge, 06-May-2013

Mitch says “Eight Sphinx AC runners ran this annual May Day event based in the sleepy Leicestershire village of Woodhouse Eaves. This walk/run event is organised entirely by the local villagers, who provide marshalls, man the refreshment stops and provide food, glorious food in the Village Hall at the end. A beautiful Spring day weather-wise and perfect off-road conditions made the 13.5 mile course through parks and along countryside trails all that more enjoyable.

Adam Barnes, Ashley Miles and Wayne Broadbent visited Wycombe Rye and Brueton ParkRuns this weekend. Adam secured a new course PB at Wycombe Rye, Ash Come second overall (but first veteran) and Wayne was the dreaded “one second out” at Brueton. 31 Sphinx AC runners/family/friends ran this weekend, with no first-timers and 5 PBs. The long weekend, good conditions and the promise of the return to the normal course meant that this was another attendance record-breaking weekend, with 516 recorded finishers (the previous record was 463 finishers). Recently-joined member Colin Piper continues to enjoy his run of PBs and Steven Osmond missed out by just two seconds. Official results are here:

Dave Kelly represented Sphinx AC in this 26K off-road challenge. There were no official results at the time of writing, but Dave finished in 2:52:26. Dave said: This is just a challenge event, there are no times other than what you time yourself. Lots of hills, as the title might suggest. Really low key but a lovely little event.

Results for Grandborough Handicap, 28-Apr-2013

The 2013 series of club races kicked off out at Grandborough on Sunday 28th April in blustery conditions. Despite the chilly weather, there was a record turnout of 32 runners taking part including new members Colin Piper and Andy McIntosh. We also had 9 other runners who were running the course for the first time. As always trying to estimate accurate times for the first race is tricky, to say the least, and so it proved as Mark Coyle ran away with the race winning by over 3 minutes from Mary Bench who managed to hold off a fast finishing Mitch Timms.

5 Sphinx AC runners/family/friends ran this weekend, with 1 first-timer and 2 course PBs. This was the 2nd anniversary of Leamington’s ParkRun and they enjoyed a record-breaking attendance. Conditions were pretty dry – just a few puddles – but quite chilly at the start.
