Thirty Sphinx AC runners ran our flagship off-road race at Coombe Country Park, with Ashley Miles taking second place over all and the men’s team winning the team prize. Conditions were reasonably dry and firm underfoot, though it was a bit chilly and slightly overcast. 32 Sphinx AC runners/family/friends ran this weekend, with 1 first-timer and 2 PBs. A dry, bright but frosty morning meant that conditions underfoot were a bit slippy. The Coombe 8 and Clown half marathons on Sunday, plus many of our regulars chaperoning other runners, meant PBs were few and far between. Pete Hall (frustratingly) equalled his PB to the second, whilst junior Elizabeth Foxall and Mike Wall’s daughter, Lauren, did some PB-smashing!
Trevor Clark and Chris Foxall represented Sphinx AC at this multi-distance event at Long Marston airfield. There are three events, all run at the same time (but no Sphinx runners ran the 5k). Prospective Sphinx AC junior, Chris Markham, took part in the Burntwood aquathlon (swim/run) this weekend. Chris is only 7 at the moment, so isn’t officially a member but his brother, Peter, is and Chris will be joining up as soon as he’s 8. Catherine Gough represented Durham University at this 3-mile, hilly XC in Edinburgh. 10 Sphinx AC juniors made the trip to Wolverhampton to take part in the 2nd round of the Cross Country League. All ran well in tough, muddy conditions. Sphinx AC were represented at no fewer than FIVE ParkRun events this weekend, with a bevy of PBs and high finishers. Coventry 36 Sphinx AC runners/family/friends ran this weekend, with no first-timers and an impressive 5 PBs. The high number of PBs can be partially attributed to the favourable conditions – cool, dry and still. Grahame Flanagan ran his first ParkRun as a Sphinx member and Ashley Miles finished fourth overall, first-in-category.
Ashley Miles and Mitch Timms represented Sphinx AC at this wet 10km off-roader. Ash won a prize for finishing 3rd overall.
