Twenty-two Sphinx AC men fought the brave fight at our home XC event at Wyken Croft. Despite some excellent individual performances, the other teams in the relegation zone fielded some very strong teams and Sphinx finished last on the day and are currently bottom of the division. Barring a mass disqualification, zombie attack or plague outbreak, it’s now almost certain that Sphinx will be relegated to division three at the end of this season.
23 Sphinx AC runners/family/friends ran this weekend, with no first-timers and 2 PBs. Conditions were quite sodden at the start/finish, and with the pending XC later in the day, a few of our faster runners ran with others, decided to have a more leisurely run or skipped the ParkRun altogether. 13 Sphinx AC runners ran the third of this season’s 5-mile races. Ashley Miles was second overall and first-in-category. Conditions were dry and the headwind wasn’t particularly strong today, but a waterlogged course meant that we all looked as if we’d completed an XC run by the end of it. The most significant aspect of today’s event was that we had a raffle winner! Mitch won a bottle of wine, dispelling the myth that our raffle tickets are carefully disposed of before the draw!

Sphinx AC runners got stuck in straight away with the first of the “normal” ParkRuns of the year. A combination of weather, pending XC and Christmas excesses(!) meant that there were NO recorded PBs this weekend. Coventry 24 Sphinx AC runners/family/friends ran this weekend, with no first-timers and no PBs. This was Coventry’s 200th event, so Ian & Andy Wilkinson and Paul Slatford dressed for the occasion! The conditions were truly grotty, though.
Twelve Sphinx AC runners took part in this friendly 3.55-mile pace race around Coventry Memorial Park. Conditions weren’t great but the atmosphere was brilliant. Sphinx did particularly well, with Andy Wilkinson winning (joint) first male place in the pacing, Wendy Foxall winning first female place for the second year running, and Sally Parkins being first woman over the line. The post-race raffle was a very socialable affair, with Sphinx runners picking up some cracking prizes…
12 Sphinx AC runners/family/friends ran the first run of the new year, with 8 first-timers and 1 PB. Conditions were pretty grotty – cold, wet and windy. Newbold was as it always is, with muddy puddles and slippery grass underfoot.
