Ciderton half marathon

May 8, 2019

Thank you to Vickie Hand for the following write up

Bank holiday weekend and 2 sphinx embarked on a journey to Taunton for the 2nd year of the ciderthon event.

Deciding to camp on a cider farm it was certainly going to be a cider fuelled weekend. Getting started with 4 pints of scrumpy whilst setting up camp. Saturday morning there was an opportunity for parkrun tourism which couldn’t be overlooked, so off we went to Street parkrun.

Sunday morning and it was the main event, 850 runners gathered at the start line with a pre race pint of cider in hand and around 95% of the field wearing fancy dress we sensed this may not be the most serious event and excitement built.

With a sample of different cider every mile of the half marathon and even Donuts and waffle to accompany the brother rhubarb and custard cider at one of the stops it was certainly the most enjoyable half marathon we have embarked on to date. People ran with speakers and sang and danced their way around the 13.1 miles. With a pint of cider at the finish it was a great end to the run and super introduction to the cider festival at the finish area with people continuing the party and cheering on fellow runners as the finished.

We would certainly recommend this event and will be signing up for next year as soon as entries open

With the best fancy dress winning their body weight in cider it may be worth giving this some serious consideration
