Results for the Men’s Cross Country League (fixture 3 of 4), Droitwich, 16-Jan-2016

9 Sphinx men made the trip to Droitwich to compete in the third league fixture of the 15-16 cross-country season. A big thanks to all 9 that represented the club, including those contending with illness and injury.

Imran made his cross-country debut, did well, and enjoyed it (notwithstanding the car journey conversations!). Thanks to David, Colin and Nick for driving.

The final league fixture is on 13th February.

Results for various parkruns, 16-Jan-2016

Coventry parkrun did not go ahead due to the slippery conditions underfoot, so we have fewer results than usual.

3 made the short trip to Leamington for some mixed-terrain parkrun action; Alex continues his road to recovery; and the Anstiss men were at Norwich.

Result for the Woodcote 10k, 10-Jan-2016

Mitch has sent in the following report:

Profile says it all really……

http://www.woodcote10k.org.uk/#!race-details/c1ecz

A mile of flat, 2.4 miles down 2.8 miles up and very nice Oxfordshire countryside.

Pleasant running conditions, all on road. Very well organised event, but a bit of a rip-off at £18 otd (Rotary Club event, not a running club one).

Got to 5k in about 21 minutes then, to take my mind off the forthcoming climbs I added one for every runner I overtook and deducted one for everyone that overtook me (sad old git, I know). Finished up on minus 11, so happy with that.

26 mins for the last 5k brought me home in 47 mins dead (and that’s exactly how I felt at the end of the final 2 mile climb!). Just managed to finish in the top quartile of my age category too 😀

It was the 300th Coventry parkrun and Andy, Ian and Paul (along with Coventry parkrun regulars Sarj and Mak) donned the whites, leather and willow to mark the 300 not out milestone. Thanks to Jason and the team for all their dedication over the years!

There was also a record attendance of 675, the Goughs were part of the volunteer team, and there were PBs for Lisa and Lacey Abbott.

Hard going, very muddy, mostly under water & river was knee deep

The organisers describe it as:

This is nuts. A 10k (approx.) cross country race incorporating a stride up Croft Hill.

Mitch sent the following report from Colwick parkrun:

Did this with Jackie, my daughter Katie, her boyfriend, Tom Padgett, and his father, Graham.

My 6th different Park Run venue in two weeks was as flat as the proverbial pancake and consisted of trails and footpaths around the lake at Colwick Country Park with one small lap of the water, one big lap, than another small one to finish.

Conditions underfoot made Leamington Park Run yesterday seem like the Sahara. Puddles, potholes and mud made it treacherous underfoot, but nevertheless it was one of the most scenic courses I’d done.

Graham and I left the ‘youngsters’ to it and set about trying to get him a PB. A sprint finish enabled him to knock 10 seconds off his best (31:05) – an excellent effort considering it was like a cross-country course in places – and his reward – he was allowed to ring the ‘PB bell’ at the finish to let all and sundry know of his success (a great idea I think).

A great summer course I reckon, a la Conkers/Kingsbury and definitely in my top 10!

Results for the Massey Pace Race, 01-Jan-2016

12 Sphinx AC runners/family/friends ran this unusual race, with the winners being those achieving (without any watch or phone) a time closest to their pre-race prediction.

It was good to see many run quicker than they expected. We also had the bizarre sight of Andy stopping 20 feet short of the finish line and having a lengthy chat as he knew that he was well inside his prediction. Unfortunately, he overcooked the chat!
