With Coventry parkrun being rightly called off due to ice-rink conditions, we have fewer results than usual.
Secret Agent Timms infiltrated the Leicestershire Road Race League by cunningly disguising himself as a South Derbyshire runner. The full nature and purpose of this mission is top secret and yet to be explained…
6 ladies and 5 men represented Sphinx at the Midlands Cross Country Championships at Woolaton Hall.
There was a record turnout at Coventry as numbers were swelled by a Warwick Uni vs Coventry Uni race-off. Andrejs finished in the top 10 overall.
Yet another cracking XC event courtesy of the above, this time at Delapre Park in Northampton. Bitterly cold, but another delightful course on muddy paths and trails through the woodland surrounding the park. Even Pete, who was doing his first XC run of the century, enjoyed it! Thanks to Tom Marchi for putting us onto this series of runs and I would highly recommend it to anyone who can spare a Wednesday afternoon and fancies a nice low-key FREE Winter off-road event (the last one was at the picturesque Bradgate Park in Leicestershire). Next one is at Newbold Revel (not Newbold Comyn), Stretton-under-Fosse, 2.00 p.m. start on Wednesday 25th February. Just ask Uncle Tom for details.
4 Sphinx runners took on this 15km multi-terrain event.
11 hardy Sphinx juniors made the trip up the M69 to Burbage Common to take part in the latest leg of the West Midlands Cross Country league. The weather was very cold but at least the sun was shining and the winds were light. We had entrants in all but one of the races and everyone ran well in the conditions. All of our runners managed to finish with both shoes on which cannot be said for all runners!
A good turnout of blue and gold and two category runner-ups.
Well done to Kev Naughton and Jane Edwards on 2nd place in their categories.
11 Sphinx ladies braved the wind and mud to compete in the 3rd of 4 cross-country league fixtures. International experience was evident as Jess Judd and Chrissie Wellington were part of over 300 competitors.
Catherine was first counter for Sphinx in 90th position, and the team moved up two places in the division edging ahead of Centurions. Well done, ladies.
