On a beautiful March morning, Sphinx runners travelled near and far to start their weekend with a 5km parkrun. The Wilkinsons went to Reigate, where Ian completed his 200th parkrun and finished in the top 5. Steven Osmond went to Lancaster and almost heeded the pre-run advice of ‘don’t get carried away on the initial down hill because you will regret it when you “find” climb 2 on the trail portion of the run, enjoy’.
4 Sphinx runners completed the 5th race in the series, with all 4 completing the mixed-terrain 5 mile course in a faster time than their last outing.
Well done to Steve and Lacey as they both registered PBs on a crisp parkrun morning at Coventry.
Pete, Garry and Ian decided on some warm weather racing by taking on the Malta half-marathon on Sunday…I’m sure they missed the balmy Coventry weather!
It was a bumper Coventry half-marathon with 42 Sphinx runners, PBs, birthdays and milestones. There were PBs for Darren, Kevin, Will, Laura, Steve, Lisa, Jon, Imran and Mary – well done!
It was also Karen’s 150th half-marathon and Dorota’s birthday.
In the Schools’ Challenge, Lacey Abbott was the first girl over the 1 mile course – well done, Lacey!
4 ladies and 2 men represented Sphinx well at the National cross-country championships, held at Donington Park. The focus was on running but the first outing of the new club shelter came a close second!
PBs were not threatened too much as many Sphinx runners’ eyes were on the following day’s Coventry half-marathon. There was one exception, however, as Ella Wilkinson set a new personal best.
Also at Coventry, numbers were swelled by runners from Coventry and Warwick Universities taking part in a bit inter-uni competition.
Elsewhere, Alex took in the South Manchester parkrun for the first time.
Hamilton took on and completed this ultra run, completing the 28 mile course in less than 6 hours.

Lisa, Andy and Jayne completed the fifth and final race of the Tempo Winter Series, a series of five road races run over a course of 10.13k. Lisa completed all 5 races in the series and, in addition to the usual sausages, received a snazzy hoody! In her own words:
Landed myself a high fashion hoodie for doing them all. Started off race one at 55.40 and pb’d each time to finally bring it down to 52.59. Hills? What hill!
