Well done to Jonathan Dowds on completing the full 26.2 miles in 4:25:05.
Many thanks to Jackie and Chrissy for their excellent organisation of this year’s club handicap series.
Jackie has sent the following Greenway report:
The final race of the handicap series took place on Sunday 25th September on the Greenway. The summer has flown by and the final race seemed to come far to quickly. Overall the series has gone well with only a few minor hiccups with the results on some of the races; easily sorted on the days following the races.
Many thanks to Wayne and Chris for sorting out the courses and to everyone who marshalled or helped at the events.
For the final race there were 27 runners, which included two juniors (Annie making her debut) and two guests – good to see Barry Adams making a return.
Roll on next year!
Steve Osmond turned pacemaker extraordinaire and has sent in the following report:
Completed the inaugural Winchester half marathon on Sunday. Pacing a friend around to an 8 minute PB for him.
Congratulations to Pawel Langer and Kathryn Stuart on their times of 1:24:59 and 1:27:30 (13th female) respectively.
Kathryn has provided the following description:
On Sunday I participated in the Robin Hood Half marathon, and was pleased to see another Sphinx AC member on the start line! The weather was absolutely perfect for a half- not too hot, nor too cold and not too windy. The course was slightly hillier than I anticipated, and the grass finish wasn’t ideal for a sprint finish, but apart from that, it was a nice course taking in the sights of Nottingham Castle and Wollaton Park (which was just as painful as I remembered from Inter-Counties!). Pawel dashed past me within the first few miles and looked to be running very strong and comfortable. I managed to keep him in sight though, and was very pleased with my finish time. It is a good course for anyone interested, but perhaps not a PB course.
Congratulations to Kathryn Stuart on being the overall female winner and 5th overall! Kathryn has sent the following report:
Whilst on a holiday in the states I decided to enter this 11 mile race as half-marathon preparation. It was a very tough course with lots of hills, and in the sun despite the early 8am start time. But the event had a lovely club vibe, much like Sphinx AC, and I was made to feel very welcome. The highlight was definitely the free Gatorade, watermelon, bagels and free use of the ice cream van at the end! Not bad for a £7 entry fee! And my prize made a good souvenir too 😀
Congratulations to Garry Barnes on winning his category and finishing 17th overall at the Barnstaple marathon. Garry has provided the following report:
Whilst down in the West Country took on this flat n fast marathon. The course is an elongated figure of eight taking in both sides of the estuary in Barnstaple and elements of the Tarka Trail. Mostly path and tarmac it’s a good course that should promise decent times but on the day there was in places a fierce headwind that made everyone earn the tee shirt and medal
17th overall -3:15:28 and 1st age cat
Congratulations to James Abrams on his PB at Windsor half. James has sent the following report:
got a new PB here in 1hour 32min 40secs,all taking part within the great Windsor park.undulating run with a long down hill straight mile and bit finish, you have the castle as the back drop and the roaring crowd and over 4000 runners including Chris Evans, also just ahead of me at one point runners giving way for hundreds of deer crossing what a sight that was!
Helen King and Laura Pibworth-Dolinski completed this off-road course with serious elevation and stunning views for a good cause.
Congratulations to Samuel Griffiths on completing his 100th parkrun, and that’s before he reaches 10 years-of-age! Also, congratulations to Barry Allen on his PB, that’s 4 PBs in his last 6 runs at Coventry! Also at Coventry, there were many Sphinx volunteering: Andy Wilkinson, Ian Wilkinson, Kevin Dick, Lisa Abbott, Paul slatford and Vickie Hand.
Elsewhere, Steve Osmond made his first appearance at Winchester, as did Alex Bartlett and Andrew Hales at Cannon Hill.
5 Sphinxies completed this sprint triathlon, held at the Excel centre. They swam 400 metres in the pool, transitioned to bike and cycled 25.75km, then transitioned to foot and ran ~5.5km. Well done to Dorota, Wayne, Catherine, Rachael and Sue!
