Mitch and Pete will be hosting an enjoyable evening of quizzing fun on the 10th March, so please keep the date free. Mark Moran is raising money for Macmillan Cancer Support and as part of his efforts will be running the London Marathon 2017 in aid of this worthy cause. Further details to follow.
New Year’s Eve parkrun brought PBs aplenty.
Well done to Pete Fahy on his PB at Coventry; Katie Timms and Tom Padgett on their PBs at Conkers; Catherine Gough on her PB at St Albans; and Hamilton Ngan on his PB at Rugby.
The chance to double-up and do two parkruns was taken by Imran Ali, Barry and Rachael Allen, Andy Wilkinson and Lisa Abbott, and Steve Osmond. Along the way there were a couple of PBs – well doen to Imran at Leamington and Andy at Conkers.

Now that Christmas has been and gone time for Race 3 at Illmington. Leaving the house for the first time in ages I inhaled deeply, this was the smell of Freedom and I wanted more. As I made my way into the heated seat of the waiting vehicle I realised it had become more snug since I last graced it with my presence, this just confirmed what my tightly fitted club vest had hinted at earlier. Oh well. New Year New me right? As we made our way to Stratford it felt like we had forgot something and unease crept in, a quick ping and we soon realised that something was Kevin, Kevin Who?
Later as we all assembled in the freezing cold a figure emerged from Shadows, it was a dodgy looking fella wearing a snood, hat and gloves looking like he was ready for rehab. With just eyes for identification it was hard to tell if his shaking body reflected a man who was going cold turkey or a guy battling winter temperatures. We can confirm this was our Kevin though!
The run itself was pretty much as every other, although I don’t think this sleepy Illmington Village knew it was a bank holiday as essential tree maintenance took place on route and also the local bin collection. It was tempting to run in front of the bin lorry and hold it up just to let out years of pent up frustration at being stuck behind one on so many occasions! Support was impressive with the ‘Massey Massive’ spectating and cheering on route. We bring this to a close as we all gathered in anticipation of the arrival of lady Victoria Hand. I looked up to see a lady dressed in fancy dress as ‘Spyro’ just beat Vickie the Sphinx Minion to the finish. I knew in my heart that this would be a bitter pill to swallow. Oh and may as well put it out there she was also wearing a Christmas pudding hat. You’re welcome Vickie!! However we do always like to find a positive and that comes in the form of some new material for repetitive jokes for the foreseeable future. We asked Vickie to have her picture taken with Spyro but she POLITELY declined.

I did the Devils Punchbowl Boxing Day Fun Run, supporting Holycross Hospital. It was about 3.5 miles (5.9k) which included downing a pint of beer after 2 miles round. As is our family tradition, I ran this with my sister, brother-in-law and Dad. It started with a long downhill which was fun, and then a steep uphill, with the beer on that hill. My sister was 3rd female beer drinker, which was amazing.
What better way to set you up for Christmas Day than a 5km pakrun? What better present than a parkrun PB?
Step forward James Abrams, David West, Louis Carver and Helen King, all of whom PB’d – well done!

At Coventry, there were PBs for Pawel Langer, David Brewis, Michael Gough, Peter Fahy and Tom Padgett – well done!
Elsewhere, the Carvers were first-timers at Rugby, as was Alex Bartlett at Maidenhead, and Laura Pibworth-Dolinski got a PB at Reading – well done!
Kev Naughton and Mitch and Jackie Timms completed this festive off-road challenge, including a dew pond, a length of four foot diameter drainage pipe and a wade along a length of the Gaddesby Brook.

A bumper parkrunday yesterday, with PBs, a Race Director debut, fancy dress and a crutch…and that was just at Coventry!
At Coventry, well done to Imran Ali on his smooth debut as Race Director. Also, well done to Pawel Langer, Vicky Brewin, Thomas Morgan and Ella Wilkinson on thier PBs. This parkrun was also designated as the Christmas fancy dress run and there were Santas, xmas jumpers and a great effort by Andy Mc, Jane Edwards and Ninj to don reindeer and penguin costumes.
Elsewhere, Ian Cunningham and Hamilton Ngan made the trip to the 2nd Rugby parkrun; Louis Carver set a new parkrun PB at Brueton; and Mitch and Jackie Timms were first-timers at Leicester Victoria ahead of the Gaddesby Gallop.
