Results for the Brinklow h/c, 14-May-2015

The second race of this year’s handicap series was held on a chilly Thursday evening on the 5.5 mile circular course near Brinklow. Once again the race was well attended by 49 senior members and 1 junior with 6 newer members taking part in their first club handicap race, while another 6 were running the course for the first time. First across the line was Jackie Stuart, who completed the course in 47:22, Jackie was closely followed by Jamie Richards (36:46) and Jon Dowds (45:17). The fastest run of the evening was by Paul Slatford, who shaved 4 seconds off his course PB to finish in 33:50, ahead of Andy Wilkinson (34:15) and Rob Wheatley (34:43). There were also course PB’s for a further 12 runners, including Wayne Broadbent, Andy McIntosh, Phil Wilson, Jane Edwards, Sue Gough and Tracey Higgins. A special mention also goes to Andy Hales who was closest to his estimated time and Robyn McSharry whose time of 40:27 was quickest of the ladies taking part.

The next race is at Monks Kirby on Thursday 11th June starting at 7:00, parking is even more limited than at Brinklow so if you can share cars this will help.

Result for the Kingsbury Classic 10k, 12-May-2015

Jackie Stuart was 21st lady in this 10k multi-terrain race around Kingsbury Water Park. Jackie described it as:

On a beautiful evening the midges outnumbered the runners. The course consisted of 2 laps around the lakes on mainly grassy trails and was relatively flat apart from one stretch of 4 or 5 ‘humps’. This was a very enjoyable event, with a small field of runners.

Why not put next year’s date in your diary now – 10th May 2016

Results for the Silverstone 10k, 06-May-2015

12 Sphinx runners braved the elements for the first of this year’s EMGP races at the Silverstone F1 Circuit in Northampton. Probably some of the worst conditions that this paricular race has been run in – driving rain, howling winds (particularly on those parts of the course not enclosed by the stands) and temperature on the cool side to say the least! Nevertheless some creditable performances, not least by Mary Bench and Dave West, who managed to aqua-plane themselves to a PB. Well done also to the 3 Sphinx debutants at this event: David West. Pacharo Chinamulungu and Karen Winchester. And a warm welcome to newbie Jamie Richards who was making his club debut in the famous blue and gold. Great performances by Kev Naughton, 3rd in his age category and Andrejs Blakunovs who finished in an outstanding 16th place overall in a field of 1,067 runners – phenomenal! Next race at Rugby http://mcs.open.ac.uk/mkac/emgprugby6.htm next Wednesday at 7.45 p.m.
