Results for various parkruns, 01-Aug-2015

A bumper parkrun weekend with Wayne Broadbent and Jane Edwards hitting their century of parkruns, with Wayne securing a new Leamington PB in the process. Darren Hallett seems to be enjoying the Polish hospitality as he smashed his previous PB with an 18:12 time and 7th place.

Elsewhere there was plenty of parkrun tourism in evidence. In addition to Darren at Krakow, Tom Marchi made his debut at Southend, Alex Bartlett making his bow at the impressively title Queen Elizabeth parkrun and Jayne Phelps completed Daventry for the first time.

Finally, Andy Wilkinson ran well and finished 4th at Coventry.

Phew…well done to all!

Bring on the Lutterworth 5 next Sunday. Be good to get a group of us out for this local event.

Result for the Trailblaster 12, 21-Jun-2015

Alex Bartlett gave us the following report for the Trailblaster12:

It was a 12 hour endurance race on a 5km course in Burnley I did with my sister Vicki, Brother-in-Law James and friend Tanya (her boyfriend Gareth did a token 10km in the middle to make a team of 5). I started it at 8am and Vicki finished at 8pm. We all did 10km in one go around lunchtime. The four of us ran 35km each (21.7 miles) making total of 150km between all five of us. I averaged 22:30 per 5km and we finished 3rd out of 9 teams in the mixed event. James averaged 20 mins and the girls averaged 25 mins. Was really hard and had a massive hill near the start, but was enjoyable and we celebrated afterwards with drinks and pizza. I would recommend it to anyone. Here’s the website if anyone’s interested in doing it – http://cannonballevents.co.uk/trailblaster-12/

Results for the Hornton 6, 18-Jul-2015

With no local race on the Sunday, Jackie and I went, on Saturday evening, to the sleepy Cotswold village of Hornton, just north of Banbury, for our weekend running ‘fix’. And what a great decision too! First timers, both of us (on the recommendation of Tom Dable, Kenilworth Runners) and we shall definitely return next year. Cherwell Runners and Joggers annual race is part of the Oxon Road Race Grand Prix Series of races and comprised a scenic circular 6 mile route. The course started with two very tough (Weedonesque) hills in the first 2 miles, followed by a nice long downhill stretch, before it wound its way back up to the idyllic village of Horley, then continued on through the picturesque countryside with several ‘undulations’, before returning into the village of Hornton via a steep downhill final half-a-mile. Low key affair, with cakes at the end at the Sports Pavilion, and well-marshalled throughout with ‘our very own’ Stuart Harris as race referee making sure ”we all looked after one another”. The only disappointment – finishing just behind Mr Dable – but we’ll know what to expect next year!

Results for the Worthington 5, 14-Jul-2015

Mitch and Jackie ran the Worthington 5, which is described by the organisers, Ivanhoe Runners (of Ashby 20 renown), as:

a low-key mid-week midsummer race held over a one lap rural five mile road route. The race is also part of the Burton and District Summer League. Net proceeds from race entries is donated to a local charity.

Mitch continued his community service by running for South Derbyshire RR (note: the picture associated with this post is of Jackie and Mitch at the Northbrook 10k, where Mitch can be seen wearing the correct colours…and possibly holding a fruit shoot).

Results for the Birdingbury h/c, 16-Jul-2015

The fourth race in the series saw 46 runners start on the tough course around the villages near Frankton. Although conditions for running were not as hot as in the last two years it was still a warm evening for tackling the three hills on this course. First over the line was Paul Carberry who crossed the line in 37:02, ahead of Tom Marchi (48:05) and Will Robertson (41:33). The fastest run of the evening came from Rob Wheatley in 32:57 with Kevin Dick (34:05) and Colin Piper (34:45) completing the top three.

There were 12 new course PB’s for Tom Marchi, Pete Morgan, Gerry Anstiss, Andy Hales, Steve Osmond, Rob Wheatley, Michael Gough, Andy McIntosh, Garry Barnes, Fiona Quinn, Jane Edwards and Paul Bergin. A special mention must go to Ian Hamilton who was deprived of his mention in the top 10 quickest times of the evening due to a mathematical error, but Ian not only recorded a new PB by one second but also managed to match his predicted time of 35:30 exactly to be nearest to the estimated time.

The next race in the series is at Corley on August 13th starting at 7:00pm. Please do not park on the triangle outside the Bull and Butcher, use the overflow car park at the pub. Details of the races that will be used for the 5 mile,10 mile and half marathon trophies can be found on the website.

To avoid a clash with the Rugby 10 on 27th September the final handicap race on the Greenway at Burton Green has been moved back to Sunday 4th October.

Results for the Northbrook 10k, 12-Jul-2015

34 Sphinx runners turned up on an overcast morning to run the latest Warwickshire Road Race League fixture and also to contest the latest additions to the Sphinx trophy case: the Richard and Jackie Bagley Trophies, for the first man and first lady. Those present in the humid clubhouse before the race were “treated” to the sights of Jamie’s Earlsdon Wobbler injuries (claims of Wayne pushing him over are still being investigated) and Mark’s forearm teat (a full product review may or may not be coming soon).

The race itself could be described as a race of two halves; not just because of the undulating first 5+km but also due to the deluge that greeted runners in the first 15 minutes of the race. Thanks to all of the support in such conditions, notably Richard Bagley and Pete Hall. Well done to Mary Bench and Steven Osmond on 10k PBs, and Michael Gough finishing second in his category. The first Sphinx man was myself, and first Sphinx lady was Catherine Gough.
