James Abrams completed this race near Loughborough, describing it as:
2 lap off road trail run, mainly on concrete but a bit of grass and bridleway terrain
The first 5-mile race in the 6-race series (one each month) took place on Sunday and resulted in PBs for Rachael and Barry Allen and Victoria O’Brien.
This week’s parkrun review is a tale of parkrun tourism, PBs and a first lady!
6 intrepid Sphinx runners went to Leicester Victoria parkrun for the first time, with Rachael, Imran and Vickie getting PBs in the process.
Elsewhere, Kathryn Stuart was the first lady across the line at Rushcliffe parkrun; Pete and Thomas Morgan went to Parke parkrun for the first time; and Kev Naughton made his first appearance at Daventry parkrun.
Thanks to captain Wayne for the following report:
A good way to warm up before our 1st xc league race next Saturday, and that is to take on the best that Warwick uni has to offer!!!! Over a 2 mile course around the sports grounds
Well that was the plan till our solitary Sphinx team rolled up and witnessed something called a warm up ( whatever one of them is )
Being carried out by a lot of very fast moving 19⁄21 yr old s
Oh dear said rob fearing an almighty kicking, but then we spotted a more realistic target a full herd of northbrook rolled into view ,
One of Which was well in our sights till the captain on the last leg went well off course and ended up looking at a barn full of sit on grass mowers
( someone needs to by that bloke a map and compass)
Good fun , good sights and good cake what more do you need from a Saturday morning, and no where near Leicester!!!!!
Hopefully we can also get a full herd out next week for the 1st league race at burbrigde common, I will send email out later this week with times and directions
Thanks to James Abrams for the following report:

Thanks to Lisa Abbott for the following write-up:
After a run of recent Pb’s Vickie did some research and found us a ‘Flat 10’ so with her support crew ; Holly and I in place we set of to Bicester for the Candleford Canter Ladies 10k.
With our friendship hanging in the balance the only thing could come between us was time đ As we arrived at the local Village hall we soon spotted an array of homemade cakes for after. The race had a lovely community feel to it. As the women ran and the Men marshalled and a late 11am start an uncertainty filled the air of was gonna cook the Sunday Lunch? As we set off to the sound of a very over the top starting pistol it was like being back in the dark suburbs of Bell green.
Within a minute we turned a corner we were met with a hill swiftly followed by another and then an off road section. As I ran through the rough terrain I recalled Vickie’s false promises and realised it was all just part of the Victoria Hand sales patter. I couldn’t help but feel it was a revenge tactic for the ‘Flat’ Greenway 10 miler I put her through in July. The rest of the route was relatively flat. As I was coming into finish I decided on a mini sprint finish to overtake the lady in front of me, she later came over and said “Well done” and then went onto win the Vet 65 Category. Took the shine off it a tad! The award for true sportsmanship went to our honorary sphinx Holly who helped someone over the line whilst we desperately willed her to ‘take her’ ! Flat it was not but Vickie still left with her 10k Pb by 2 minutes taking her to the sub one hour club. “She came, she saw, she conquered. Well done Vickesh đ
12 brave and hardy soles this Welsh marathon that offers great views but also some climbs that may turn your legs to jelly. Well done to Bryan Pears as first home for Sphinx, finishing in less than 4 hours. Also, well done to Kevin Dick on completing his first marathon, and to everyone else for completing the challenging route.
Thanks to Fiona, Chrissy and everyone else that supported our runners.
There is plenty to report from parkrunday, otherwise known as Saturday. Mitch Timms was in Wales for the Snowdonia marathon and took the opportunity for a bit of parkrun tourism by doing the Penrhyn pakrun based around the imposing castle.
Elsewhere, there were PBs-aplenty at Coventry as Alex Bartlett, Andy McIntosh, Lore Paterson, Rachael Allen and Vickie Hand all beat their previous best. There was also a PB at Clair parkrun as Louis Carver achieved 78% age grading! Darren Hallett ventured furthered afield though, as he completed Warszawa-Praga parkrun for the first time in a very good time. Well done to all!
Four teams represented Sphinx at these Midlands XC Relays, 2 ladies’Â teams and 2 men’s. Thanks to Fiona for the following report, support and photos.
The cross country relays took place at the Aldersley Stadium in Wolverhampton. The weather stayed dry which was great for me as I was spectating but it did mean that the runners got off lightly as there was hardly any mud on the course. The course consisted of two laps with a couple of hills but nothing as challenging as cardiac hill (Leamington cross country course coming soon!!!).
Thank you to everyone who took part in the race and especially Barry, Rachael and Vicki who all chose this one as their first cross country for the team. As Vicki was completing her first lap and shouted over to me ‘I hate you and I hate this course’ (with a smile on her face of course!!!) I thought her cross country time was over at the first hurdle, however by the end of the day Vicki had the cross country bug and was asking about the league races!!!! Vicki – I have already signed you up for them all!!!
If you would like to enter the cross country league races then please do let me know. It doesn’t matter how fast you are, it is just a chance to enjoy the races and they are great team events.
