National Cross Country Championships - 26th February 2022

Congratulations to all the Sphinx that ran at the National Cross Country Campionships, Saturday 26th February 2022 saw 1 woman and 5 men from Sphinx AC gather at Parliment Hill in London for the National Campionship Cross country Race.  Running 8 and 10 km through incredibly muddy conditions they battled against the best in the country for their spot in the final results. 1010 women and 2087 men took part

Results for the National XC Championships, 25-Feb-2017

Thanks to Wayne for the following report (next year’s Nationals are likely to be at Parliament Hill, London):

8 sphinx and 2 ladies competed in this years national xc at Wollaton park ( Nottingham ) , with over 1000 in the senior ladies race (8km) over 2000 in the senior men’s (12km),

meant for a challenging day, with most of the course a combination of a swamp and a bog snorkelling event ,

With Allen achieving his pre race target of becoming a top 1000 finisher crossing the line in 1000th place ,

Due to injury Rachael was not able to run but top supporting points acheived ,

A great day out

Results for the Midlands Women’s XC League Race 4 (Warwick Uni), 11-Feb-2017

9 Sphinx ladies made the short trip to Warwick University for their final cross-country race of the league season. Well done to all those that have played a part during the season; the team finished in 23rd place in division 2.

Results for the B’ham & District XC league race 4 (Droitwich), 11-Feb-2017

Thanks to Wayne for the following report, and also for organising us so well over the season:

12 Sphinx made the trip back along the M42 to Droitwich ( different course to race 3 ) for the final league race of the season , the official Sphinx warm up was underway , i.e. Staying inside until the last possible moment before then giving it the full beans at the hooter ,with a sea of blue and gold leading the race through first 2 corners ,

With strong racing from everyone we managed to overtake the team ahead of us and finish in a brilliant 6th place out of 19 teams overall.

Well done and congratulations to Michael Gough in his first season as a senior , winning this season’s Sphinx cross country trophy .

A big thank you to everyone who represented the club throughout the whole season and making it a very enjoyable season

Result for the BUCS Cross Country Championships, 04-Feb-2017

Thanks to Catherine Gough for the following report:

A sunny but windy 4th February saw UK Universities race at the BUCS (British Universities & Colleges Sport) Cross Country Championships in Graves Park Sheffield. It was an fun but tough 7.4k distance for the women’s race. Very hilly and muddy, featuring a hay bale jump and a short very steep part. Unlike some I stayed on my feet to finish 167 amongst the 619 runners!

Results for the Men’s Cross Country League (fixture 4 of 4), Gloucester, 13-Feb-2016

Both cars turning the wrong way out of Copsewood could have been mistaken for bad navigation but it was to pick up a spare club vest and a forgotten Garmin (to paraphrase Imran: if it’s not recorded, it didn’t happen). After that false start, both cars were on the way to Gloucester without any further wrong turns.
