2012 Sphinx AC Coombe 8
|The 2012 Sphinx AC Coombe 8 was held on Sunday 25 November. Despite the torrential rain that had saturated the UK in the days prior to the event, the actual day of the race was sunny and bright but it was quite cold at the start with a strong wind coming in from the south-west. As can be seen in some of the photos (below), parts of the course were waterlogged and one of the bomb craters was flooded beyond use. The water feature – introduced in 2011 – wasn’t needed this year!
This year’s event was quiet a landmark for the club, as ALL 250 places had been taken in advance and there were no on-the-day entries.
The course has to change slightly year-on-year as Coombe Country Park is a working estate. This year’s course was measured at 8.3 miles and took in maintained grass, open field, woodland trail, a short stretch of tarmac and some sections of undergrowth.
The main winners were:
The team prize was taken by none other than the host club, Sphinx AC.
