2018 parkrun cup

2018 sees the return of the popular parkrun cup.

Parkrun cup adds a bit of fun and drama to your regular parkrun – Sphinx members that have opted in will be drawn at random to compete in a head-to-head. So everyone has a fair chance we will use a handicap system based on your 2016 best Coventry parkrun time. An example of how this will work is shown below.

Example : runner A has a best time of 23 min’s and runner B has a best time of 19 min’s . if these two are drawn against each other runner B has to finish more than 4 min’s ahead of runner A in order to progress to the next round , otherwise runner A will go through to next round.

Rules:

This is a separate competition from our main handicap series and will be an individual knockout format, with the random draw taking place after the handicap on Thursday at the Rosey Combe pub. After the draw I will add the handicap difference between each competitor. So you know what you have to do to progress to the next round

The competition will start on Saturday 5th May.

The final can take place no later than the end of September. To allow time for trophy engraving

This is free to enter and is a bit of fun so please don’t treat this like the Olympic games , as it’s the first time we have tried this  and things will come up that we haven’t thought about. If it’s a success we will look to expand so more runners can take part this will also include the juniors next time.

So everyone has a fair chance we will use a handicap system based on your 2016 best Coventry parkrun time. An example of how this will work is shown below.

Example: runner A has a best time of 23 mins and runner B has a best time of 19 mins. If these two are drawn against each other runner B has to finish more than 4 mins ahead of runner A in order to progress to the next round, otherwise runner A will go through to next round.

Please contact me before your race so we can keep the competition up to date.

In the event of a tie we ask both runners to arrange to run again within 2 weeks.

In order to keep the competition moving along we ask you to complete you race against your opponent within the month. If an runner does not register a time during the month  then that person will be eliminated. Your opponent will then progress to the next round.

At the end each month the website wall chart will be updated so you can see how the competition is progressing.

The next round needs to start on the first Saturday of the next month .

Although it would be good if both competitor’s race against each other on the same Coventry parkrun. We realise this might not be possible . So to get around this you will need to let me know which Coventry parkrun date you intend to set a time.  Your opponent has to do the same with in the month .

You can only select 1 Coventry park run date per round.

it’s very important to please contact me before hand with the date you wish to run.

Another way to keep the competition moving along is shown below.

Example:  runner A v runner B and runner C v runner D all race on Sat 6th May and A and D are successful.

These 2 can arrange to run their next round or set their time as soon as possible, even the next weekend and not wait until the next month. As long as you keep me informed.

Finally, you can only compete at Coventry Park Run as the handicaps are based on this one.

Good luck and don’t forget to let me know in advance which particular race you are competing in.

If a runner has pre selected their date and for whatever reason cannot run on that day ,or doesn’t want to set their time on that day they must let either kev or myself know before 8.45 am on that Saturday at the latest
