If anyone is interested in doing the Lazarote Running Challenge in 2011 bookings are being taken.

In 2011 the dates will be Thursday 24th November to Thursday 1st December. As usual we will be going with a group organised by Rugby and Northants and the total cost is expected to be £480.

If you want to come deposits of £150 need to be with the organiser by 20th February with the balance payable in August. For ease Pete Fahy tends to collect up deposit cheques and bring them over to Rugby. If you do want to come than have a chat with one of the performance athletes at the club.

Building on the experience of the past few years, I would suggest that we should go for the better standard of accommodation (one apartment we had last year was far too small for four adults!) and aim for the early-out, late-back flights if available. The accommodation prices at LaSanta seem to have stabilised and flight costs seem to have reduced slightly from last year’s peak, so I would expect the overall cost to be similar to last year: around £480 each. The deposit will be £150, with the balance due by the end of August.



We will need to be in a position to book the accommodation in the last week in February, so I will need deposits by 20th February.

As some of you are aware we are planning a trip to the Loch Ness Festival of running in October. We are now finalizing the numbers and total cost of the trip. From our calculations, each person’s outlay will be no more than £400.00. This figure includes the cost of;

• Return flights from Birmingham to Inverness,
• Bus travel between Inverness and Inverness airport,
• Hotel accommodation (4 nights - based on two sharing)
• Entry to the race (prices will vary. Marathon £40, 10k £22, 5k £10)
• Plus a trip to Ben Nevis on the Monday. (optional)


Obviously your costs will be reduced if you do not wish to climb Ben Nevis or participate in any of the running events. We will be flying out on Friday 30 September and returning on Tuesday 4th October. We need to move quickly as prices for the flights are rising almost daily and hotel accomodation is filling up quickly too. We are looking to book into a Premier Inn, Best Western style accommodation.

If you definitely would like to participate in a weekend of what is sure to be immense fun, then please could you confirm your intention to either Mark Coyle, Mitch Timms, Darina Brejtrova or Tracey Higgins on Thursday at the club. At this stage we would require a non-refundable deposit equivalent to the value of your race entry from those wishing to particpiate in an event enabling us to secure your place. For those running the marathon we intend to enter all participants as a block entry for Sphinx AC so all our numbers will be consecutive.
