There was a good turnout of Sphinx runners at the New Year’s pace race, organised by Massey Runners. It’s a good event, with the winners being the closest to their predicted times rather than first-over-the-line. As such, everyone left their GPS watches at home and did some mental gymnastics to estimate their time for 3.55 miles. Lisa Abbott was the nearest for Sphinx, finishing 10 seconds ahead of her prediction. Jayne Phelps far exceeded her expectations, finishing nearly 9 minutes ahead of her predicted time.
