Results for the Corley h/c, 13-Aug-2015

The last evening race of this year took place over the usual route in Corley, 41 runners took part over one of the hardest courses used in the handicap series as it involves a long 2 mile climb up Wall Hill Road that just seems to go on forever.

It is however, a course that appears to suit this year’s winner, Alan Patrick (40:31). Following his 3rd place last year, Alan won the event in 2012 and finished 4th in 2011, if you want to know what happened in 2013 you’ll have to speak to Alan as it wouldn’t be right for me to say he finished 43rd out of 48 starters. Following Alan home were Suresh Basra (49:13) and Vicki O’Brien (47:05). The quickest run of the evening was by Andy Wilkinson (31:47) with Paul Slatford (34:13) and Pete Fahy (34:19) making up the top three.

There were also PB’s for Wayne Broadbent, Alex Bartlett, David West, Narinder Bains, Sue Gough, Suresh Basra and Ian Hamilton who has recorded a new PB in every race this year. Jane Edwards and Wayne scored top marks for estimating their time both being only one second out.

The final race of the series will take place on Sunday 4th October starting at 11:00am along The Greenway from Burton Green towards Kenilworth, as in previous years this is an “out and back” course. Parking is at The Peeping Tom pub which is half a mile from the start so please allow yourself plenty of time to get there before the race starts.

Before this we have three Club Handicap trophy races to run for starting with the 5 mile trophy, once again we are using the Massey Ferguson Corporate 5 on 26th August for this event. There is no need to estimate times the winner will be the runner who beats the handicap time by the most. The Kenilworth half marathon will be used for the half marathon event and finally the Rugby 10 will be used for the 10 mile trophy.

Finally I have to mention that the competition for the Men’s Road Race Champion is probably the closest I have known, with 3 people tied at the top after 5 races and only 6 points covering the top six. However with 100 points available for the fastest run on the day this opens the competition up to any of the top 15 runners as there are some people who need to run The Greenway to ensure they complete 4 races in the series. The Handicap trophy is also still a very open competition which could be won by any of the top 20.
