Results for the Corley handicap, 14-Aug-2014

By Andy Wilkinson | August 20, 2014

The final evening race of this year’s handicap series took place over the traditional course at Corley Moor, which includes the 2 mile climb up Wall Hill Road to the finish. 36 runners, including 2 guests, took part on a cool, chilly evening but despite the conditions there were several excellent runs from several of the athletes. Mark Moran continues to improve taking over 7 minutes off his previous best time on this course, while Fiona Quinn set another personal best by taking over 5 minutes off her PB for the course. A mention should also go to Michael Gough who was taking part in his second handicap race and following on from his excellent run at Birdingbury last month completed one of the toughest courses in the handicap series in an impressive 37:19. Congratulations must go to Simon Leisten who has only recently joined the club and was also taking part in only his second handicap but following a disappointing run at Birdingbury, ran away from the rest of the field to win the race in 38:31, just ahead of Monica Ciezarek who completed the course in a new personal best time of 43:05, third across the line was Alan Patrick in 38:50.

The quickest time of the day was by Andy Wilkinson with a time of 31:54, followed by Paul Slatford (32:42) and Pete Hall (33:35), nearest to their estimated time was Will Robertson whose time of 41:36 was only 6 seconds outside his predicted time.

With one race left in the series competition for several of the titles and trophies is still open and could be won by almost anyone who completes four qualifying races. The final race is on Sunday 14th September starting at 11:00 am. Parking for this race is at the Peeping Tom pub which is half mile from the start of the race on “The Greenway”, please allow enough time. Once again this will be a ‘there and back’ race along the Greenway from Burton Green towards Kenilworth.

Finally a reminder that the Massey Ferguson Corporate 5 on 27th August will be used for the Club 5 Mile Handicap race, no estimated finishing time is required from the runner; the winner of the trophy is whoever beats my estimated time by the biggest margin. The current holder is Luke Makins whose finishing time was 1:41 quicker than my estimate. I look forward to seeing many of you at the Memorial Park for this event which is always well run by our friends at Masseys.
